Safe landing in Lehighton

 June 12, 2023

Pocono Point CG site P16

Lehighton, Pa

It was bound to happen sooner or later.  Today we packed up between the raindrops....a light smattering of rain that really wasn't all that bad at all when you look at the alternative... a drenching downpour.   Dad didn't even put on his raincoat.

We drove in the light right for the first leg of our trip on the Pennsylvania I-81 I remember well....bump-bump, bump-bump.  Hard for a gal to rest.  Maybe I should have had Dad hook me up to a seat belt?  At least the traffic was moving steadily in our direction.  Check out the poor travelers trying to make progress in the opposite direction.

Vehicles lined up as far as the eye could see!

Just before Hamburg, Pa, Dad decided to take the back roads for a smoother ride on the picturesque country roads.  Momma said, 'This is a beautiful ride.'  We were definitely in farmland country.

Nice rolling hills and much smoother pavement.

As we passed through a small community to get to Rt 61, I'm certain I could hear Uncle Steve muttering..."and why am I following him?"  The streets had parallel parking on both sides and the remainer of the road was just wide enough for two regular sized vehicles.  At one point, it felt like we were threading the needle around an oversized truck right after making a tight right hand turn.  Dad didn't even blink an eye and  I could read Momma's thoughts of ....'I'm glad Roger is behind the wheel today.'

Uncle Steve and Aunt Carol couldn't pass by Cabela's without stopping, but Dad wanted to press on and get set up, before the rain we had left behind caught up to us.  Dad says it really isn't fun setting up in the rain.  You can ask Uncle Steve about that as the rain was in full swing when Aunt Carol and Uncle Steve arrived.  The trick is to have patience and wait out the heavier downpour.  Too bad the rain didn't stop so Uncle Steve didn't have to dance between the raindrops and puddles.

Momma located an ice cream shop that is open from 5-9 but decided that it was just too wet to venture out as it has rained from mid afternoon throughout the evening.  They even list a dog bowl on their menu.  I had hopes.....but.....

Uncle Steve said he didn't bring any waders much less a row boat so he was in for the evening, but MY Auntie Carol swam over to see me.  Then she stayed to play a few rounds of Sequence.

If you enjoy sleeping to the sound of rain, this just might be a good night for you.

I'm Chloe
