Sunday's Adventures

 March 29, 2026

Summerfield, Fl

Dad said I shouldn't tell anyone, especially our traveling friends, but, I tend to tell it all.  Momma tried out a new recipe and Dad gave it ...not one...but both thumbs up.  He might just be feeling a tad greedy and non-sharing with these cookies.

It's a chocolate cookie (bummer, they won't let me have chocolate) with a cream cheese filling.  Momma said she was supposed to get two dozen cookies but it wound up being only one dozen as she ran out of the chocolate cookie dough.  There is plenty of cream cheese filling left so I think another dozen will be baked tomorrow.  Strange recipe from a new source.

Dad has been busy with numerous projects since returning home so Momma headed to Walmart solo.  Publix works well for her as they bag the groceries and even place them in the car for her, saving her back, but she needed some Walmart items.  She really lucked out.  Not only did the cashier bag her items, but he removed the filled bags from the carousel and placed them in her cart for her.  It all made sense when she looked at his name tag.  His name was Rodger.  Even though his name has an extra letter (d) from Dad's name, he still had that same giving, sharing, helping personality.   I greeted her when she returned home and then got Dad to carry everything into the house.  Momma was treated with kindness by Rodger and Roger😊

Carol and Steve headed south this morning with Dothan as their overnight destination.  Auntie Carol has a dance class in Ocala on Tuesday that she has registered to attend.

The remaining camping friends in Huntsville spent their last day at the US Space and Rocket Center.

Meanwhile, my Summerfield neighbors, Tim and Julie, rolled into their driveway on Saturday evening around 6pm.  Their day of travel ended up with the final Florida leg being quite windy as a front blew through Florida.  I got to visit with both of them today.  Things are back to normal in the neighborhood now.  They had taken a quick rest break at Farmhouse Market in Madison, Georgia so they picked us up some of that delicious, freshly ground, peanut butter made from honey roasted peanuts.  Yummy πŸ˜‹

Kathy and Greg enjoyed their second day in Folkston, Georgia taking a wonderful eco-boat tour through the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. One of the birds they saw included a Yellow-crowned Night Heron only seen by their guide a few times a year.  The guide pointed out a Barred Owl in a tree that would have been missed without the guide's assistance.

Check out this gator posing right under the Do Not Feed the Alligators sign.

Bob and Reba have already arrived at Foscue Creek Campground where they will be joined by the others on Monday.  After catching up on laundry they took time out to enjoy Mother Nature's gifts.

as well as the gorgeous surrounding scenery.
I understand Reba is treating Bob to chicken dinner at Jack's.  Sounds good to me.  I LOVE chicken.

Meanwhile, Momma is trying her best to follow the doctor's orders so she can get healed up and on the road again.

Looks like a long, slow road.  After 3 months of healing, there hasn't been much improvement.  Sure hoping the wound specialist makes faster healing progress than her dermatologist. Momma just ordered another supply of four inch sterile gauze pads.

She also ordered some more of my favorite dog treats seeing as I won't be close to Auntie Carol's dog treat filled pocket.

Monte Sano State Park

 March 28, 2026

Summerfield, Fl

Momma has been traveling vicariously since having to return home to hook up with a wound specialist.  She has commented that she would much prefer to be out of state with her camping friends but....life doesn't always work out the way you have planned.  So the next best thing are the texts with photos from her friends.

Greg and Kathy are headed on a southerly track where they stopped in Folkston, Georgia visiting the Chesser family homestead.  The original house was built 99 years ago.

Michele and Jim have decided to take advantage of their current location and spend the day with friends who live in the Huntsville area.

Steve and Carol decided to visit the US Space and Rocket Center Museum as they will be departing Huntsville and heading south tomorrow.

The remainder of the Huntsville group headed for Scottsboro, Alabama to visit/shop at the Unclaimed Baggage Center.

Back in 1970, Hugo Doyle Owen heard over his ham radio that a greyhound bus service had a pile of unclaimed bags.  For $300, he drove his truck to pick them up and the business began.

Unpacking lost bags is like an archeological dig.   It's hard to contemplate why someone would leave behind and not search for some pricey items that failed to make the trip with them.  Items such as a 1770 violin or Hoggle-Jim Henson Puppet.  Some items were displayed in a museum area.

while other items were displayed in a sales area

Rick was please to discover a relaxing coffee corner to make use of while the gals explored the center and made a few purchases.

beach hat for the next cruise

Their lunch report made Momma sad,

as she LOVES Culver's.  But as it happens, Dad loves Culver's as well so he took Momma out for dinner.

Needless to say, I was left home.

As it drew near dinnertime in Alabama, Pam made French toast for the gang

to go with Louise's sausage and blueberry, cool whip toppings.

And once again, the evening was spent gathered around the table for a game...Mexican Train tonight.

And another day of adventures drew to a close at Monte Sano State Park.

Departing Chattanooga

March 27, 2026

Summerfield, Fl

Today is travel day for the caravaners as they depart Chattanooga and head for their next destinations.

Robin, Janice and Blake headed north.

Now Robin, I know you don't like hot weather, but don't you think 32 degrees tonight while staying over in Winchester, Virginia is a tad too cold?  I guess you are getting prepared for the high of 34 degrees tomorrow at your home in upstate New York.  I'm sure Blake won't mind with that black fur coat of his
.

Safe journey to you!

Greg and Kathy headed south

stopping for the night in Ashburn, Florida at Carroll's Sausage and Country Store.

If you spend the night in their on site campground, you receive a $10 voucher to shop with.  It's like receiving a discounted camping site while adding to your pantry.
And then they received a surprise bonus...one that would have had me shaking from head to tail....

Fireworks were being displayed from the next neighborhood.

So with those departures in different directions, there were four left to head for Huntsville, Alabama.

What a gorgeous rest stop right on the river

at the Tennessee Welcome Center

While the travelers were enjoying a rest break, Dad and I were enjoying coffee break on our home patio with Momma's molasses cookies and dog bone treats.  Auntie Carol, I would have gladly shared the molasses cookies with you in exchange for one of your dog treats.  Your treats are always full of love πŸ’—.

We had planned to camp on a buddy site with Aunt Pam but....

Her camping 'buddy', Raymond and his wife arrived later

The next three nights will be spent at Monte Santo State Park on the outskirts of Huntsville, Alabama.  Thankfully, the GPS was flawless as it directed the drivers through Huntsville, then taking them on several turns on smaller roads to arrive at the state park.
After getting set up, the group gathered in Rick and Louise's rig to enjoy a few games of Fast Track

And some much needed R&R after several hours behind the wheel

And the adventure will continue tomorrow for the travelers.
