Mount Airy

 June 6, 2023

Mayberry CG site 57

Mt. Airy, NC

Happy Aniversary to Uncle Steve and Auntie Carol.  Year 54 completed!!  And Momma, Dad, Tina and Steve got to celebrate with them today.

A blissful, delicious, shared dessert to top off the meal at 13 Bones Restaurant.
Uncle Steve enjoyed chicken
While Momma, Dad and Auntie Carol enjoyed flounder.

Tina's Steve had the catfish while Tina enjoyed chicken all served by a wonderful, attentive server with a bit of a southern accent.

Earlier in the day, everyone gathered in the historic area of Mt. Airy to wander through the shops.

Did you notice the 5 cent sign in the background?  During restoration, a long ago painted mural/sign was discovered under the layers of paint on the brick wall.  Coke decided to send a paint crew to Mount Airy and bring the painted brick wall back to life. Nice job!
Mount Airy, Andy Griffith's birth place, is full of references to Andy Griffith (who played the sheriff) and Don Knotts ( who played Deputy Barney Fife) in the Andy Griffith Show...life in small town Mayberry.

Those episodes are still shown as reruns on TV today.

Mount Airy also has a collection of painted guitars that can be seen throughout the town.  Check out this sample.

Auntie Carol, Uncle Steve along with Tina and Steve went to the Andy Griffith Museum in the afternoon.  Momma and Dad have visited here before so they passed on revisiting the museum.

They decided to come back to Mayberry CG and play a round of ball with me.

As mentioned previously, this is an unusual campground.  Just check out the unique water connection at each site.  That pipe is HUGE!  Not quite fire hydrant huge, but still uniquely large.
Mayberry is a well maintained campground with great power, good water pressure and two sewer connections to choose from at our site. There is also a cable TV connection,  free Wi-fi and the Passport America 50% off the nightly rate puts a huge smile on Dad's face.

The land is terraced so the layout of sites is unique.

As you can see, the camper in the site next to Griffin's pulled out this morning so Dad was able to drive thru that site and then just back up on the road at the front of Uncle Steve's Class A to get to our rig on the unique dead end road.  The location of our rig gives us great shade in the afternoon under our awning so I can lay in the lush grass under the shade of the awning.

Today the gang played a game of Fast Track before heading out for dinner at 13 Bones and then a game of Five Crown when they returned.  They certainly love card games as much as I enjoy ball games.  I didn't get as many games in as they did, but then it's not every stop that we get to spend time with Tina and Steve who drove over from Tennessee just to see ME....well, everyone else as well.  They are going to try to join us once again in October when we pass thru Murphy, NC on our way to the SE Rally.  I can see more games in our future.

Tomorrow is travel day.....Mount Jackson, Virginia is our destination.

Catch you in another state...

I'm Chloe
