Mayberry CG site 57

Mt. Airy, NC

I can hear you now:  "Chloe, you don't have many pics on this post!"  Well, there is a good reason for that.  Momma and Dad haven't given me a phone so I'm relying on them to snap the shots.  Now, Momma usually does a fairly decent job, but Dad....well, that's a whole different story.

Today was travel day.  We had a smooth launch at 9 am and headed in a northerly direction.  The highways were in pretty good shape. The traffic had its few crazy drivers but we survived in spite of them.  And with Momma behind the wheel, it was up to Dad to capture that 'North Carolina Welcomes You' sign as we crossed the border.  Momma even gave him a 5 mile warning thanks to the 5 miles to the border alert on the GPS.  Well, he had his camera phone in his hand and there it was.  The big, bold, colorful North Carolina sign and Momma singing out....sign, sign, sign.  But it was a fumble on Dad's part which put him in the doghouse.  Momma graciously said, "That's okay.  Just snap the signage at the Welcome Center", seeing as that was our designated travel break for the day.  Whew, a way to redeem himself.....except.....there was NO SIGN to snap a pic of.  Well, I guess he could have taken an image of the trucks this way/cars and cars with trailers this way.  But there was no North Carolina signage.

I have to admit, it was a strange/non-typical layout for a rest stop.  The road wound around in a fairly large loop with parallel parking on either side of the road.  It definitely didn't have the large parking lot appearance that we have grown accustomed to.  So Momma found a spot on the left side of the road and Uncle Steve was on the right.  Due to the curb, his steps failed to launch and opening our steps out onto traffic side of the road wasn't good for us either.  A car departed on the right side so Dad moved us over to that vacant spot, allowing us to put down our stairs on the curb side of the road. Much safer, for sure.  Dad was ready to brew his breaktime cup of coffee and that meant he needed access to getting into the fifth wheel and the cinnamon buns on the menu for the morning break were also inside the rig.  Dad said those cinnamon buns taste best with a hot cup of coffee.  Now me, I wouldn't have a clue about that, as all I get are mini dog treats for my break.   I know, be thankful for my treats...but maybe just a bite of bun would have been a nice change for my taste buds.

Speaking of tasty treats.  I have to pat myself on the back.  I was able to accomplish a feat I was really proud of.  While we were at Grandma's house..Colleen's house... with 3 adults in the kitchen...I scored a large slice of heavenly roast beef, without being seen.  Granted, I had to really woof it down quickly before anyone noticed my sneak attack, but the missing piece of meat gave me away.  Caught!!

Mayberry Campground has a strange/unusual layout. I guess today is the day for the unusual.   We are in a pull thru site with another pull thru site on our left side and a few more on our right side, but the road in front of us is a dead end.

It begins at the site to the left of us so we can only go to the right which is no problem for exiting.  But we will need to get back to the front of the rig and I guess you just drive in the opposite direction toward the dead end and somehow try to get the truck angled in the proper direction for our angled site without driving on the grass.  I almost wonder if it would be easier to just back up the road toward the dead end.  It might be a long ways to back up, but atleast it would be convenient for getting into the correct angle to get into our site.  Now Uncle Steve doesn't have that issue to deal with as he drove in towing his jeep which is now parked behind his rig.  He'll just drive right out to the right when it is time to depart without a second thought.  I guess our site is really designed for campers towing a vehicle rather than a vehicle towing a camper.

We were all set up, enjoying a beautiful day sitting under our awning when our former Florida, now Tennessee, former camping friends arrived at our site.  Some of you may remember camping with Tina

and Steve.  We were tickled to hear that they would be driving over to meet up with us.  They didn't bring their camper but are staying at a local motel.

Steak off the grill with side dishes to share made up our evening meal.

And of course, the day wouldn't have been complete without a game.   Hand and Foot was the game for the evening.  It was guys against the girls.
Uncle Steve said the guys rock...as in they walloped the gals but good.  I guess they really got fired up after the gals took the first round because they came out on top for the remaining 3 rounds beating the gals with a score of more than twice of what the gals had scored.  The girls were stilll smiling at the end....as it's only a game and tomorrow is another day.  And I'm sure the guys have that 'feeling good as a winner glow' that will make them more than ready for another game tomorrow.

I just wish I would be able to hold a hand of cards in my paws.  Would that be known as a 'paw of cards'?  Who knows, I might actually enjoy playing cards as much as I enjoy chasing after my jug or ball!!  N O T

I'm Chloe
