fog..fog...and more fog with a dash of sprinkle

The fog horn has been really getting a workout lately...as in a ton of fog...so much so that views are limited.

You should be looking at water and the jut of land on the left but....fog has stolen the view.

And the rain has caused a bit of water to collect....right where Uncle Steve's outdoor sensor for his thermometer fell to the ground.  It appears Uncle Steve might not have gotten that boy scout merit badge for knot tying as his knot didn't hold up that sensor with the wind blowing.

Well, one thing leads to another and it seems a trip to Canadian Tire in St. John was called for to replace the indoor/outdoor thermometer.  It's about a 40 minute trip so I definitely had time for a nice long nap!!

Dad had forgotten a grease fitting for the needle that allows him to grease the front drive shaft on the Ram.  Canadian Tire didn't have the right size BUT.... the recommendation was to visit the Parts for Trucks shop just up the road.  It was an excellent recommendation.  Dad handed the clerk his needle requesting a grease fitting and the clerk grabbed the right size, screwed it into his needle, smiled and told Dad, 'Have a nice day!'   Wow!! Sure made an impression on Dad!!  No loonies, toonies or even paper money exchanged hands.

I was delighted that it wasn't raining and the fog was out over the water which meant I could play ball and get some excercise and playtime in before dinner.

One more day ....a free day....stay a week and the 7th day is free....here at Century Farm.  Tomorrow we leave New Brunswick and head into Nova Scotia.

I'm ready to get on the road again.....

Lighthouse

Last night we saw the campground worker guide a Montana fifth wheel into their site.  He wasn't in his golf cart...he was using a small car.  Why?  Because he was being smart, keeping drier, during the heavy downpour.

The Montana owner sat in his truck for a while and then finally decided there was no way around it.  He was going to get drenched while setting up.  With a Florida license plate, Dad and Momma were interested in where they reside. Today we discovered they are full timers who just have a Florida license plate but don't live, never lived or even winter in Florida.

This morning our rig smelled like a bakery.  Momma used that wonderful flour that she loves but can only purchase in Canada

and made wheat bread.

One loaf was devoured before it even had time to cool... and I didn't even get a crumb!
While the rain stopped, I got to play ball before the two-legged headed out this afternoon.  Their first destination was the post office for Canadian stamps.  Post card stamps cost $1.30 each.  That's more than the post card cost!  The postal worker was very helpful with directions to the nearby lighthouse.

Auntie Carol called this lighthouse a utilitarian structure.  It looked interesting as we approached

But I don't think the boxy shape will win it any architectural awards.  And sitting behind it as we approached was the fog horn.
The surrounding area was beautiful and made up for the ho-hum lighthouse.

Smile for Auntie Carol....

Uncle Steve walked down by the point

to capture these scenes of the shoreline.
The question of the day:  is that a path made by humans or animals?

We drove by an interesting display
I'd say an old fisherman lives nearby.

As we approached the wharf, it was obvious that the tide was out.  The boats were sitting on their keels.

With the weather being damp and cold, it was the perfect time for another bowl of that delicious seafood chowder at The Caves Restaurant.
Of course Momma would enjoy it even if it was boiling hot from the sun outside.  They serve the best chowder with the claim of 'world famous' with a tea biscuit on the side.  Better than crackers any day.

With window seating, they enjoyed the meal while watching the boats returning after a day on the water.  The boats anchored off shore, waiting for the higher tide to roll in.

Tonight's game was Fast Track...after I went thru my sit, shake, down, stay routine in order to receive my Auntie Carol treats.  Would you believe they ending the evening with a tied up situation...2 wins for the guys and 2 wins for the gals?  They all were close games.  Just when one team could begin to taste victory, they would either get trounced on and sent home again or Jacked across the board ...and the game would continue.

Another foggy wet day forecast for tomorrow.  We may not be sitting outside under our awning, but we are still enjoying our time here.

St John

 June 26, 2023

This campground is laid out with a staggered double row of sites.  Those with a view from the front window are on the front row and those with a back window view are staggered in a row behind them.  That way everyone gets a view of the bay.

Uncle Steve is in the front row and we look over his picnic table out our back window for our view of the water.

And of course you can walk on the beach....and stick your toe in the water.

When it is low tide, there is lots of beach and a hill of rocks to climb down and back up.  Uncle Steve equated it to trying to keep your balance while walking on ball bearings as the rocks shift as you make the climb up or down the bank.  I'm so light on my feet, I don't mind the rock bank at all.  Maybe there is an advantage to having 4 legs on the ground!?!  Just follow me Uncle Steve.

Last night was another wet night and unfortunately it continued on into the morning.  But do you think that intimidated the two-legged?  Not this gang.  They donned their rain coats, loaded up in the jeep and headed for St. John.

The first stop was the reversing falls.  It's and area where the Fundy Bay meets at St John.  The water rushes in (or out) as the tide flows from high to low and back to high once again every 6 hours and 13 minutes.  The geological shape of that narrow area lends itself to what one could call 'rapids' or 'reversing falls'.  The tides of the bay force the flow of water to reverse against the prevailing current.

Now how does this reversing falls occur?
Once again, luck was on their side as the rain stopped in order to let everyone get out of the Jeep and take in the view from the viewing station.

Hey, guys, turn around

The next stop was City Market which has a long history.

The original building in 1830 gathered six markets together in one building but the building was lost to fire 7 years later.  It was rebuilt in brick but that building was also demolished.  In 1874, architects were offered prizes in a competition to submit a market design.  By 1876, the City Market was in operation once again.  The winning design, earning the architect $200 prize money, has a roof that resembles an inverted keel of a ship.  All the wood was hand hewed with dovetail joints.  The contruction has withstood time.

The Deputy Merchant Clerk still carries on the tradition of ringing the bell at the beginning and end of each market day.

Dad's nose took him to his favorite coffe shop.

Not only do they serve coffee, but their chicken wraps were enjoyed as well.

Auntie Carol found a cute moose to bring home.  I'm not worried because that moose isn't able to beg and digest treats as I am.  He's already stuffed.  I won't have to share a single treat!!

On the way back to the Jeep, parked at the top of the hill

Momma snapped a pic of the park across from City Market.

While in St John, the gang took advantage of the larger stores and replaced some pantry items.  Momma was excited to be able to purchase one of her favorite flours that is not available in the US.

By the time they returned to me, the wind was still blowing and flapping the toppers over our slides and a misty rain was still falling.  I'm sure Momma wanted me to do my outside 'business' much quicker, but I enjoyed that wind and rain ruffling my coat and I had been cooped up inside most of the day.  Just wrap that rain coat a bit tighter Momma and enjoy this windy fresh air sending a chill through your body as it is only 62 degrees.

I was excited to see everyone gather around the table once again in the evening, but I really wish they would pay more attention to me rather than that game of Dirty Uno.  If Uncle Steve wouldn't keep making Momma draw 5 cards at a time, she would have a free hand to give me some attention.  Should I nip his ankles to get him to stop laying down those dreaded jokers?  Now he's picking on my Auntie Carol.  I guess they are having fun if all the chuckles are any indication.

Rain forecast was erroneous

 June 25, 2023

Century Farm CG site 23

St Martins, NB

Momma said she can't believe our luck.  That 80% chance of rain turned into rain at night.  We had another marvelous day...and even some blue sky after the morning mist lifted.

Uncle Steve's water heater has been asking to be pampered.  Something about having to go outside, to the rear of his coach, flipping open the door and massaging it because the inside coach on/off switch wasn't getting the job done.  Now when you add a bit of rain into the mix as in last night at shower time, it brings the situation to the front of the line for attention needed.  Yep, today's project... which led to additional projects.

I offered to help but the guys said having my nose in the way just wasn't productive.  Momma played ball with me instead which was super fine with me.

Aunt Carol and Momma left the boys to their manly tasks.  The gals loaded up in the Ram and decided to explore St. Martin.  They were treated to the opening weekend of the Market held in the Four Seasons building.

There were a handful of vendors selling craft items as well as jellies and pickles.

The next stop was
where collectibles and antiques were available for purchase.

The gift shop they stopped in

had a very nautical theme to it.

Down by the harbor, they found a couple more gift shops as well as Octopus Ice Cream.

So the story goes, Grandma was eating her ice cream when the grandkids asked what flavor she had.  Thinking they would want her to share, she told them the flavor was Octopus.  'eeww' was the response and she enjoyed her dish of ice cream by herself.

This gift shop added personality plus to the harbor area.

But this wasn't the only shop to display flowers.
Or how about a repurposed purse that acts as a flower pot?
Upon returning to the campground, Momma and Aunt Carol found the guys using Uncle Steve's binoculars.  Dad's were stowed away in the Ram which of course was off site with the gals.  Uncle Steve said they shared his.  Dad said they caused quite a stir with Uncle Steve looking out one eye piece while Dad looked out the other eye piece.  Momma said she wanted a picture of that!!😂

What prompted the binoculars was the fleet (of two) boats that were making their way out to sea.  They appeared to be good sized fishing boats.  Maybe they were the ones that captured the lobsters that were sold at the harbor??

As the evening drew to a close tonight, the gang finished the last round of Mexican Train with the double zero round. It was a bit later than usual when they quit playing, as they had started the evening off with the double 12.  It was a relaxing day so no one minded at all.

I wonder if the weather will be kind to us again tomorrow?
