Mitchell KOA - site C12
Mitchell, SD
We all woke up to rain this morning. But it was a soft rain without any loud, rolling thunder so I stayed pretty relaxed. By the time I was ready for my morning walk, the rain had stopped but the wind blew ALL day.
A poor traveler arrived today with fingers crossed that there would be an empty site that he could slide into. He was anxious to get off the highway after struggling with the wind while towing a camper. He saw the campground sign, turned in and was blessed with a 'yes', we have a spot for you.
There really isn't too much to offer in this immediate area as far as tourist attractions, so the park seems to empty out each morning and fill up as the afternoon becomes evening. The campground is in a convenient location with a welcoming, efficient staff who stay quite busy with the daily turnover.
Momma was surprised to see the worker even clean the picnic table as she readied a site for the next guest.
There is a local farm that sells items through the campground office: pints of homemade ice cream, cheese, jerky and cheese spreads. Yes, Momma and Dad tried the ice cream flavor named Triple Berry. It is an extra bonus that the campground offers.
Pam crossed off another bucket list item that a friend had told her about.....The Corn Palace
Each year the palace murals are redone with fresh designs with a new crop of corn and husks.
Corny was on hand posing for the camera this morning.
The Corn Palace is located in the older downtown section of Mitchell along with a few shops, including an antique mall.
The mall was advertising a retirement 60% off all items sale but Pam and Momma left the store empty handed. Nothing called to them.
It was really too windy to be comfortable sitting outside today so Momma decided the peaches they had picked up earlier in the week had ripened to the point of cobber time.
I'll have you know that it wasn't too windy to chase a ball today.
I'm Chloe
