Three Toes

Three Toes Campground site 13/14

Buffalo, South Dakota

Our travels today resulted in one small catastrophe...now don't get excited.....it just called for use of the vacuum cleaner to gather all the blue shards of glass from the carpet.  I know....glass...really Momma.  It was only a matter of time and driving on highway 85 before that vase that has been riding around forever and a day slid to the floor.  We spent 95% of today's travels in constant motion due to the repeated jarring from the rough joints in the highway.  The repetitive, steady clump clump jiggled and shifted things that have NEVER relocated ...including the blue vase.

I think it is quite apparent why they named this campground Three Toes.

With everyone being parked so close together, you can't help but step on someone's toes.
Did you notice the for sale sign?  One would think the campground would be in top notch shape but alas, wouldn't you know Pam's electric connection had a ground fault.  It was tough enough trying to establish where our sites were located because of the unusual power connection set up.  The pedestals, or maybe poles would be a more accurate description, have two boxes, each with a different site number.  One box is a 30 amp while the other is a 50 amp.  We had been assigned sites 12, 13, 14.  Back-in site 11 was connected to box 12.  I guess they liked the location of 11 but wanted a 50 amp service.  Dad backed us into site 13, and we connected to the 50 amp.  Pam backed into site 14 and discovered a bad power supply.  Seeing as the sites are so close together and no one would be able to use site 13 anyway, she just added an extra cable, running it under our rig and plugged into box 11.  Robin backed into site 15 and had to put blocks under his tires on the driver side to get level.  The ground was so soft where he stopped his wheels, that the blocks sank into the ground, taking him back to unlevel once again.  So he pulled forward to firmer ground and calculated his position so that the slide would pass over the 'in the way post' by lining it up with his slide wheel well.  Then he ran his water hose under his rig to connect to the Y sharing water with Pam's water connection.   And to think all this elaborate set up is for just an overnight stay.

This campground uses an honor system for payment.

In the laundromat behind our rigs, there is a table with envelopes, a lock box and a bulletin board with signage to explain what is expected and the site rates.

When Momma sent a text to the campground owner about the bad power and how they adjusted their sites due to someone already using site 12's power, she got a nice reply back with an apology for the confusion and a promise to repair the electric when she returns home in a couple of weeks.

At least the campground is at a convenient location right off the highway and not out of the way at all.

After dinner, Dad, Momma and I took a walk round the block.  Momma was wondering why I was so excited until I yelled, 'PLAYMATES'.  Then she finally saw her first wildlife in South Dakota.

These two rabbits were having a conversation until I got so excited.  Then it was every bunny for themselves as one ran across the street while the other stayed on the other side of the street where they both froze in place...as still as a statue.  Momma walked closer to capture a couple of pictures and was surprised to see that there are cactus in South Dakota.
The yard was loaded with cactus in front of what appeared to be an abandoned home.

Well, tomorrow we will head further south into South Dakota stopping at Custer.

I'm Chloe
