Cody Trout Ranch Camp site 24
Cody, Wyoming
It was a rough start this morning. Between dancing on the moat stones trying to get packed up and discovering a broken cable slide on the top door side of the rig, it was a sad way to begin the day. Dad decided to deal with the broken cable when we landed so Momma pressed the slide 'in' button while Dad leaned on the slide to make sure it went all the way in for travel.
The pronghorn were right by the highway to see us off, but Momma was just getting settled into her seat and wasn't prepared to snap a pic.
The morning improved immensely as we traveled toward Thermopolis due to the picturesque ride as
we traveled in what felt like a canyon with steep side walls
and even a trio of tunnels.
The road followed the water as did the train tracks.
The planned break took place at Wyoming Dinosaur Center.
And wouldn't you know, they were celebrating their 30 year anniversary with free admission. How sweet for us, especially after a rough start. Not only were there dinosaur bones on display,
but fossils...plant as well as animal.
These are just a sample of what was on display.
Our arrival went smoothly and Momma's replacement convection/microwave oven was sitting in the campground office waiting for her arrival.
Dad got to work on the slide cable which turned out to be a bear of a job seeing as the cable had broken,
which meant he had to free hand weave the new cable around the pulleys rather than pull it through by using the old cable. With lots of assistance and persistence, he finally encouraged the fraying end of the new cable around the pulleys and into the proper path for operation of the slide. He still needs to do some fine adjustment to the cables for proper alignment, but he decided to get started on the next project....remove the old oven and install the replacement. The campground owner kindly delivered it to our site while Dad was messing with the slide cable.
Of course that project wasn't an easy task either. He thought he could use the same wall support metal piece but found out that there was just enough difference between the old one and the new piece that the oven wouldn't seat itself on the support. In other words, he was back to square one.....it was like installing the oven twice. But once again, persistence paid off and Momma now has a fully functional unit. Celebration time!! Grits for Dad tomorrow for breakfast. I hope they are as good as Reba's.
By the way, I'm back on gravel once again.
I'm Chloe
