Baddeck, NS
Dad, the wizard, has been at it once again. The latch on our tonneau cover broke. The plastic clips on both sides snapped off from age and beoming brittle from the sun, I guess. We were near Halifax, where one would think would be the perfect place to locate a replacement. WRONG. The Truck Accessory Store didn't have one in stock but they might be able to get one shipped in ....in a few weeks.
The hardward store here in Baddeck seems to be well stocked. Dad purchased some pieces of metal and .....
We can once again latch down our tonneau cover!! Way to go Dad. There doesn't seem to be a limit to his creativity. While Momma, Dad and I caught up on 'rig' projects, Aunt Carol and Uncle Steve decided to take the day trip on the Cabot Trail. It's a scenic ride that you definitely don't want to tow a camper on and will takes several hours of driving while enjoying the beauty Mother Nature has created. When they departed in the morning, Aunt Carol said, "We'll see you around 3pm" and Momma said, "Or later," as they had been on Cabot Trail on a prior visit. Sure enough, it was closer to 4:30 when they returned. They scored some great shots.
The Gaelic College in St. Ann holds a Ceilidh on Wednesday nights. The summer camp instructors take to the stage and share their talents with the audience. Tonight's performers included two bagpipe instructors. It was interesting to note that the gal's bagpipe uses a bellows for air while the guy's blew in a pipe to fill the bag with air.
There were dance instructors who step danced for the audience
and fiddle and piano instructors who played for us
Some of the instructors mentioned that they had attended the college as a student in their younger years, and now they are taking on the role of instructor.
A story was told in Gaelic...Momma said she appreciated the English translation. She didn't understand any of the Gaelic words spoken.
For the grand finale, all the performers gathered on the stage and filled the stage with Cape Breton style music and dancing.
And of course who did we sit beside in the audience, but a couple who have a home in Florida near Stumpknockers. They call themselves SunBirds as they have a place in Maine as well.It drizzled and rained when Dad was finally finished with his project and Momma finished her baking so there was no ball time for me today. How disappointing for sure!!
Our kind neighbor came over and said to Dad, 'I see you have a project going. I just received a weather notice that rain will begin in one minute.' Dad had just finished and he hussled to get everything put away, with Momma's assistance, just as the first drops began to fall. Great timing Dad!! Today is your day to shine.
I'm Chloe
