Bras d'Or Lakes CG site 18
Baddeck, NS
I can tell this is going to be another one of those trying days. "Dad, it is still raining out...even though it has slowed to a sprinkle. Do you really expect me to go outside NOW? What if that loud thunder comes again? Then what? You know it is challenging to 'take care of business' when that loud noise may get me!"
I could tell Dad was just itching to check out what was happening at that site up from us where the guy is banging on his hot water heater. I know he would have headed that way if the rain hadn't decided to come down full force once again.
It's an interesting rain day. It'll rain like crazy, and then there will be a brief minute, sometime several minutes lull before it really gets with it once again. And then it pretty much cleared this afternoon, until Dad washed the windshield. Just as he had it dried off and was ready to apply a coat of Rain-X, it began to sprinkle once again. Timing...you don't have it today, Dad.
Dad saw an announcement that heavy rain is expected throughout Sunday in the Channel-Port aux Basques region of Newfoundland. That is the port where our ferry will take us. Are we glad our original plans to travel on Sunday were changed? You bet!!
When Momma was routing our summer adventures, she had us riding the ferry to Newfoundland on Sunday. Thinking it would be more of a challenge to book the campgrounds, she secured those first, then proceeded to purchase the ferry ride. Well, that was a mistake. Even though we were three months out, there was no availability for vehicles on Sunday's ferry and no cabins available on Monday. Tuesday became the new ferry crossing day and the campground reservations had to be adjusted to accommodate the change in the ferry schedule. And the Tuesday ferry time is not a great option, but they will make it work. The departure is at 17:45 which will be fine. The arrival in Port aux Basques is 1:30 am...in the dark. Not ideal at all. Plan A is to stay at the Trans Canadian Rest Stop and Visitor's Center 3km away until daylight. Everyone is hoping that there won't be a need for a Plan B. It may be dark, but at least the rain will have moved on and we won't be dealing with that extra burden. And the water should be calmer for travel.
According to the news, this rain has caused some issues for the trains as well:
So it is rainy day, wet ground, inside activities for me today. I was hoping one activity I could get away with was to snatch a slice of that roast beef off the counter, but, alas, they were watching me. As soon as my front feet left the floor, they were onto me. Maybe all that sniffing and circling gave me away!?? It sure did have a good aroma!!
Man, I didn't even score a piece of Auntie Carol's scrumptious looking key lime pie that she brought over at game time.
I could be starving here....
I'm Chloe
