Baddeck

Bras d'Or Lakes CG site 18

Baddeck, NS

I had to laugh when the gang began ranting about the young gal at the Visitor's Center.  "Work ethic has gone by the wayside."  "All she did was look at the clock.  Was she trying to rush to her off duty time?"  "I think they just hired a body."

It definitely wasn't what they were used to when they entered the Information Center for the area.  No friendly greeting or offer for assistance.  What was really sad, was Momma and Uncle Steve had more information than the gal behind the counter.  Another couple came in and asked for information on the Ceilidh at St. Michael's Hall.  After the gal said, "I don't know" in response to their questions,  they stepped up and answered the questions as they had just been there the night before.  The information gal didn't even have any of the informational brochures for the Ceilihd ....but our campground did!!  Go figure.

The couple from Orlando saw a sign advertising the Ceilidh so they went to the information center for....more information.  They own a Class C but decided to fly to Nova Scotia.  They sure missed out on all the fun we've been having on our route by choosing to fly.  Somehow I wonder if the Telegraph Inn, where they are staying, is as cozy as our fifth wheel or Griffin's motor home???

So it was unanimous, the gang decided that our campground host who checked us in would be the perfect person to work the information center.  She willingly shared information about the immediate area as well as the surrounding area.  She shared so much that we went back the next day to help clarify some questions we had.  Forget about trying to get information from the young gal at the info center.

The campground even knew who to contact about getting a replacement for the Ram's windshield.  "Why do we need a new windshield", you ask?  What began as a small starburst incident from a rap on the windshield, low on the passenger side, has now developed into a sprawling affair with 3 runs growing longer as we speak.

About 45 minutes to the north, Sam's Glass happily ordered a replacement and said as soon as he has it in hand, shipped unbroken, he will give us a call.

It's interesting the way things seem to fall into place.  Sam's Glass is in North Sydney.  The port where we board our ferry is in North Sydney.  We will have the perfect opportunity to check out the route to the ferry departure port and scope things out.  We will also be able to 'stock up' before leaving Nova Scotia. Baddeck has just a Co-op and a small pharmacy while there are larger stores to choose from in North Sydney....including....Walmart!!

Baddeck has an ice cream shop and of course the gang had to check it out.

The waffle cones were freshly made, thin and tasty.  Auntie Carol had her fingers crossed for her pistachio flavor but no joy.  Dad's hot fudge sundae was a bit different.  The chocolate was drizzled over the whipped cream on the very top.  No hot fudge below that.  So far, after tallying the scores, I believe Fielder's Choice in Bangor, Maine and Chantilly Ice Cream Parlor are coming out on top.   But the flowers on the patio area are ranking right up there with the other high scoring foliage.
Do any of you remember when Uncle Steve was going thru his slide issues and having visions of the bright aluminum, slide free Airstream campers?  It is apparent he is still suffering from that aluminum looking disease.  Just take a look at the front of his coach.
It may be behind glass, but it still has that aluminum look. His treasures from Canadian Tire completed the project: how to support the aluminum looking, heat reflecting sheets around the frontal glass.  Now all we need is a few less clouds and some bright sunshine to test out the effectiveness of this latest creation.

I'm playing ball again!!  Life is good in Baddeck.

I'm Chloe
