Surprises

All Adventures CG site 49

Friendship, NY

Another easy travel day.  Not much traffic sharing the roads.  And the prettiest rest area we have enjoyed in quite a while.  The view looked out over the hillside/mountains.  If only we were in full fall color....it would be breath-taking!  As it was, there was one brave, lone, early-turner tree just off the parking lot that was showing a hint of fall color.

We had several surprises today.  The first surprise was a common one that is caused by the inaccuracies of the Garmin GPS.  We came upon the entrance to our campground sooner than the Garmin had indicated, but, Momma knew we were getting close and was looking to the left, where Garmin said the entrance would be coming up and as she glanced to the right......there it was.  Sooner than expected and on the opposite side of the street.  Dad was able to get stopped and backed up so we could swing into the entrance drive.  Surprisingly enough, no U turn was needed.

Upon checking in, we received another surprise.  A canvas bag with a bottle of water inside.

We are only here for two nights, but we were still treated to a welcome bag.  Nice touch.

As we were following our golf cart escort, we spotted an additional surprise.  A BIG, FAT, scampering/waddling ground hog crossing our path.  As the name of the campground says...All Adventures.

Dad, Momma and I have never stayed at this campground, but we have been close to this area and remembered Sprague's Maple Farm in nearby Portville.  The restaurant is still receiving great reviews so the two-legged loaded up and enjoyed turkey dinner.  Way too much food to eat so of course they brought some home....and put it in the refrigerator.  Hey, doesn't anyone believe in honest to goodness doggie bags?  One of the treats in the bread basket were mini maple muffins that were yummy according to everyone.  Maybe when Momma attempts to reproduce them, I'll get to share one with Dad?  Paws crossed.  She is off to a good start as she purchased some of the maple syrup produced on the farm.  Check out the equipment they use when it is time to collect the sap from the maple trees.

As the sun began to set, we were once again surprised with some guests.

But they didn't stick around long enough to enjoy sitting by the great fire that Dad built.

No surprise there as Dad is well known for his great fires.  The surprise was the free wood supplied by the hosts/campground owners.  Free canvas bag...free firewood...I wonder what tomorrow will bring?
