Travel day: Grand Falls-Windsor, NL

 August 2, 2023

Sanger Memorial CG site 43

Grand Falls-Windsor, NL

It’s travel day today.  Momma says she will be sad to leave behind the stunning views of Twillingate,

but it will be nice to have internet and reliable cell service….hopefully our new location will provide that.  When we arrived at check-in at Twillingate, the gal told us that they have wifi at the campground, but there really isn’t good wifi anywhere in Twillingate….and she wasn’t exaggerating.  Uncle Steve had a conversation with the clerk at The Iceberg Shop who shared that if she sits in the middle of her driveway, she can usually get a signal. So needless to say, the blog pages haven’t gone out.

As were traveling on highway 340 heading for Trans Canada Highway 1, and we passed the 7th sign for ‘Potholes Ahead’,

it brought to mind the question the performer asked at the Dinner Theatre: “Who is the richest person in Newfoundland?”  The answer:  “The guy who is making the Pothole Ahead signs”.

These signs aren’t referring to just one or two potholes that are a car length ahead.  The sign usually refers to at least a mile or more of rough road.

Some load shifting and placement rearranging can take place if you don’t have items packed tightly or tied down in the camper!!   And I don’t even have a seatbelt to hold me in place.  At least I have a soft dog bed to flop on.

So this is the second time our GPS has failed to properly locate the campground.  The GPS was programmed using the name of the campground, but it told us we had arrived when there was no campground in sight.  Quickly Googling for directions, we discovered all we needed to do was continue an additional three tenths of a mile and we would be at the entrance. Lesson learned:  program GPS by physical address, not campground name.

Our site is nice and long with….. are you ready for it…..50 amp service…which we haven’t had since we arrived in Newfoundland.  That will be a real joy after battling with low voltage 30 amp at our last location.  No more calculating what is turned on and how much amperage is being drawn.

Uncle Steve and Aunt Carol didn’t experience a smooth landing.  It seems the gal on site 41 misplaced her camper key so she couldn’t pull out of the site that had been reserved for Uncle Steve and Aunt Carol.  She was waiting for a backup key.  By mid afternoon they were able to settle into their spot for the next four nights.  All is well.

As we were concluding our setting up, Marion from across the road came over with a warm welcome to The Rock.  She said she noticed our license plate and she wanted to extend a warm welcome and let us know she was available to answer any questions we might have.  She and her huband live on the east side, north of St Johns.

I'm going to enjoy all this green grass here.  Dad, can we get out my ball now?

I'm Chloe
