Boat Tours

 August 8, 2023

Gros Morne RV CG site 62

Rocky Harbour, NL

Everyone got a boat ride except ME!!  Uncle Steve and Aunt Carol headed out this morning for a 3km hike to get to their boat boarding site.

Aunt Carol said the hike in took them about 45 minutes.  There was a family also taking the boat tour who had hiked in as well, and the Dad was on crutches.  Talk about a HIKE!!  Now the catch is, there is also the same hike back to your vehicle.

The pristine water is in the Provincial Park and seeing as the location is pretty well land locked, it has hardly any living water life.  The high, steep rock walls were impressive.

And the singing guide was entertaining.

With Dad's knee bothering him, Momma and Dad decided to take the boat tour out of Bonne Bay with a drive-to dock location for loading.  They also had entertainment on board with a 3 piece band for the last 15 minutes of the boat tour.  "One more song.  Make another small loop before we dock."

This boat tour went into the South and East Arm where the tour guide shared information about Newfoundland life and the formations to be viewed.

Do you see the door on the second story?
The tour guide called it 'a mother-in-law door'.  Yes, he had quite a sense of humor.

The guide even attempted to help a bit with homesickness for anyone missing Niagra Falls by taking us by a waterfall.  Yep, he had a humorous speel.

There was even an eagle's nest with two babies...teenagers...who were being encouraged to leave the nest.  A high powered zoom lens would have been beneficial for this shot.  Look just to the left of center.
It was a gorgeous day to be out on the water with the afternoon temperature reaching 75 and lots of sun to assist in capturing keepsake photos.

As the boat passed by a wharf, the tour guide explained how the smaller boat was launched off the larger craft to deploy the net.

Our boat was definitely bigger than these two colorful kayaks.

The shifting rocks pushed this flat-topped area up to form what is referred to as the Tableland.  The area is even redder in appearance in the morning sun.  We will see more of the Tableland when we arrive at Trout River in a few days.
Newfoundland is a very impressive, well worth visiting island.  As Momma has said often,  "I'm so glad we came!!"

I'm Chloe
