PEI

 August 23, 2923

Pine Hills CG site 71

Charlottetown, PE

Why are we getting up so early this morning?  Oh, yes, I remember now.  Dad wants a free ferry ride. You can make a reservation for the ferry, but then you pay.  Or you can just show up and get in line and gamble that there will be room for you.  So we are playing the 'early bird gets the worm' game today.

Upon arrival at just over an hour before the ferry is scheduled to depart, things are looking pretty good.  It only took us an hour and a quarter to drive here.  There is only one van in front of us in line #7.  To the left of us are the paid passengers and there are a few cars, a camper, and a couple of semi trucks.  Things are looking pretty good.

As the minutes ticked by, more vehicles arrived.  Some parked to the right of us and some to the left of us.  "What's that Uncle Steve?  Did you say the check in employee at the kiosk said it would be a close call to see if we got on this 10:15 departure ferry?  And only one of us might make it on board?"

Well, I guess that would be us on board and you still at the dock as we are in line a head of you.

Here comes the ferry.

Oh goody, we were just signaled to board.

Did Uncle Steve make it?  Ahh, he's the last big rig/truck to fit on board.  Whew!!  That really was close.

Looking down from the top deck, they were still parking cars as tight as they could safely get them.

Good bye Nova Scotia...

Looks like a few didn't make the 10:15 ferry so they will have to wait for the 12:00 ferry departure.

What a gorgeous day for travel.  The sky is a beautiful blue with fluffy white clouds.  And the ferry ride was only 75 minutes.  Lots of driving time saved by shooting across the water rather than all the way around to the bridge and coming in from the other direction.

Prince Edward Island has lots of agriculture due to it's fertile soil.  Lots of farms with crops growing in the fields....especially potatoes.  There goes a truck load of potatoes now.

Check out the potato storage buildings.

Looks like a collection of antique tractors on display.

A beautiful, short drive on  Prince Edward Island.

We are heading for a campground on the other side of Charlottetown.

What a nice campground with a friendly employee checking us in.

We have full hook up with 30amp and I'm happy to report it is a strong 30amp.  This lush grass is super for ball playing and there is lots of room for corn hole.  The gals played a couple of games while the guys puttered with some sort of project.

Uncle Steve was complaining about a fan running constantly while they were driving/riding so the guys went on a search to locate the off switch.  Success!!  I'm sure he wishes they had gone on that search a few miles ago.

My wish is for nice sunny days like this for all of our 5 night stay so I can enjoy numerous ball games this week.  Here's hoping.....

I'm Chloe
