Peyton;s Woods CG stie 11
Twillingate, NL
It sure looks empty this morning in our campground. The Fantasy Tours sites are no longer
occupied. We are on full hookup sites
but some of the sites that Fantasy occupied were without a sewer connection so some
were lined up at the dumping station.
I finally figured out what took Uncle Steve so long to set up. I walked around to the other side of his rig and there it was. An engineering masterpiece that pretty much emptied out his bay.
Now compare Uncle Steve’s creatively engineered sewer connection with our connection.
Every site seems to come with its own challenges. Uncle Steve had to overcome a unique sewer connection
location and we have to be extremely aware of our amperage draw. We can be drawing/using only 11 amps of our
available 30 and have our power go down because the voltage drops so low our protector
shuts off the flow. Our neighbor who is
here for the summer has one of the two 50amp sites. He told Dad to plug into the 30amp on his post. Now we are seeing 120 volts instead of 115 even
before turning on anything. We are now able
to use the full 30 amps available. No
more dropping to 107 volts or lower.
Today’s adventure took the two-legged back to a house that they
had passed while they were exploring.
The house had a sign advertising bags of sea glass for sale. Some colorful pieces of glass that have
washed up on Durrell’s beaches and collected by the grandkids. In chatting with the husband, he shared that
the winters can be hard with the strong winds coming in off the coast along
with the snow, so he was cutting up wood to keep them warm during those cold
days....white birch... as it is plentiful. The two-legged thought it was cold enough today waking up to 57 degrees and
a chilly, damp day. No way would winter
sound enticing!
The next stop was at Durrell Museum located high on a site with a beautiful view.
I’m not sure if your vehicle could make the climb in winter, but then again, without any tourists, I’m sure the museum is closed for the winter.
The gal behind the counter was friendly and helpful. She shared that all the items in the gift shop area were local, handmade items. That’s the area that drew the gals first, before taking in the artifacts on display.
The Wooden Boat Museum had informational posters that detailed the history of the boats used to by the men for their livelihood of fishing and how they evolved over the years.
Every year a new boat was made for use during the fishing season, unless the old one could be patched. On the second story of the building, a boat was under construction,
but they were using modern wood working machines to accomplish the task. Now you may be wondering how they would get a boat from the second story out of the building. If you take into consideration the hilly terrain, you’ll see it isn’t much of a challenge as the back of the building has an overhead door that opens out onto the hillside at ground level.
This is the first campground that has let us wash our rig so
Momma and Dad took advantage of the opportunity to wash off the collection of
road grime we have been collecting since June 1st. Today the camper…tomorrow the Ram. I know I won’t be next in line as temperatures
in the 60’s are way too cold for tubbies, even with warm outside shower water.
The evening ended with a real treat for the gang. They had made reservations months ago for the Twillingate Dinner Theater….and it’s a good thing they planned ahead as it was a full house.

Lots of humor and chuckles with the skits that shared life on this island.
Aunt Carol had met the accordion player earlier at our campground.
Gary sure knew how to make that accordion come alive. He also had a great voice as he sang on stage, entertaining the diners. The lead performer who told tales that would set up the next song or skit was very versatile on many string instruments that he played throughout the evening.
Everything was very organized, including the parking in the small lot with two men lining up the cars in rows to allow everyone a space to park in the lot. Well done!! Delightful evening!!
Momma is fond of blue glass and her eyes lit up when she saw the beer bottles were a beautiful shade of blue. Auntie Carol said she would get Momma a bottle. She got to sample Iceberg beer.
When Momma came home with four blue bottles, I thought she must have had 'quite a night'.But she explained that as they were departing, they not only took the bottle that Aunt Carol had, but they found a couple of others discarded on tables that Dad and Uncle Steve stuck in their pockets. Lots of blue souvenirs.
The could have brought me a doggie bag souvenir. I would have taken care of that in no time!!
I'm Chloe
