Travel day to Grand Canyon

 June 12, 2025

Grand Canyon Camper Village site 56

Tusayan, AZ

What an interesting, confusing landing we had today.  The first issue occurred when the GPS told us we still had half a dozen miles to go when Momma saw a sign for our campground on the right side of the road as we passed by.  Ooops. U-turn time.  Thankfully, the road was multi-lane wide with little to no traffic so the U-turn was a simple process.  Momma had to take the wrap for the faux pas as she had chosen Trailer Village instead of Camper Village as the destination.  It really wasn't the fault of the GPS.  Just the programmer.

Upon arrival, the gentleman checking us in was so excited that Dad was a Navy Veteran that instead of the typical 10% military discount,  he gave us 20%.....on both sites.

He drew our path to the site on the map and ......we discovered both sites were occupied.  When we called the office about the situation, she assigned us two other sites.  We didn't see sewer at those sites plus they were only 30 amp and we had booked 50amp full hook up pull thru sites.  Upon further investigation, it was discovered that we were assigned sites 55 and 56, not 255 and 256 that the map directions were for.  So after maneuvering from site to site we finally landed and got set up on our site that is just long enough for our rig.

Pam had not experienced Meteor Crater so we made that one of our rest stops as we headed west on I-40 on our way here.

Our second rest stop was to pick up fuel as once again we encountered wind that lowered our mpg.  We are beginning to associate Arizona with wind.  No awning deployment once again.  At least the fuel was much cheaper than in the Grand Canyon area.  So far the overall average cost for fuel is still under $3.00 a gallon.  The local price here is $3.99 a gallon.  No thanks!

As we neared Williams, where we turned north on hwy 64 we noticed a big change in scenery.  We have trees greenery once again.

And we also spotted deer along the way.  I told Dad he should have stopped so I could invite the deer to play.

I'm Chloe
