Antelope Point on Lake Powell

Antelope Point RV Park site 13

What an interesting ride today.  The trip began on highway 64 which took us into Grand Canyon National Park.  We showed our National Park Pass/America the Beautiful card and drove on the nicely paved, smooth riding road.

With the canyon being 277 miles long, we kept getting glimpses through the trees that lined the road.
and we passed a couple of lookouts along the way.
You could definitely tell when we exited the National Park by the condition of the road.  No more smooth ride.  It was one of those 'relocate everything in rig' rides as we bumped along.
The scenery shifted to what they refer to as 'desert'.  I'm guessing that applies to the change in vegetation.
We are no longer looking down into a chasm, but the views take the eyes upward toward rock formations.

But the more colorful views are when the light changes with sunset.
We decided to book a boat tour of the canyon slot.  When booking on-line, Momma noticed a $13 booking fee so they decided to go to the ticket office and book their tour.....and would you believe, there is still a $13 booking fee.

As long as they were at the Marina, they decided to try out the restaurant.  That wasn't the best idea as it turned out.  The restaurant is down by the waterfront and you need to take a courtesy golf cart ride to get there.  That trip down felt like an amusement park ride as we started down, making a sharp turn to avoid the rock formations and twisting back the other direction.  Check out the view from the dock looking back toward the ticket building.

Dinner was definitely a laid back, slow, experience.  No one timed it, but we were seated at a table and after a ten minute wait, one of the workers whose job was busing tables brought water to the table to occupy us while we continued to wonder if the waitress would ever acknowledge us.  It was easily 20 minutes and was probably more like 30 minutes before our food order was taken.  Momma had looked at the menu on-line and had visions of the patty melt on marbled rye.  Of course, the actual menu at the restaurant had been updated and the patty melt was not longer being offered.  There was definitely plenty of time to read the menu, cover to cover, and make another selection.  Everyone ordered something different but they all agreed, the food was mediocre, at best.

The next challenge was to get back up to the Ram.  There is a yellow call box to request the courtesy golf cart shuttle....and it was well used as there was a line of boaters waiting for rides.  As I said, dinner turned out to be a slow experience.  We had ridden down on a three row cart but it appeared to be work staff who had room for two riders at a time who were shuttling everyone back up the winding trail.  It was rather a steep climb which seemed to challenge the cart as it slowly made the grade.

During our trip today, we passed what was left of a burning car along the side of the highway.  Dad wondered if it had been an electric vehicle that caught fire.

From the pile of items along the highway, it appears they were able to salvage a few items and highway patrol was already on the scene.

Definitely a trip that couple will remember!!

Earlier this morning, just as it was getting light out, Dad and I were walking around the campground and this time Dad had his phone with him.  We weren't the only ones walking around the campground.

Dad told me not to pay any attention to them as they were busy eating breakfast.

I think I prefer my choice of food.

I'm Chloe
