Unexpected events and surprises

Camping Transit site 216

Levis, QC

Well, everyday brings new experiences.  Some are planned experiences and some are unplanned.  With only 95 miles on our travel schedule, we decided to have a laid back, relaxing morning and hit the road around 11am.  After a bacon and eggs breakfast and a load of wash completed, we brought in the slides, emptied our tanks and hooked up.  Just as Momma and Dad were winding up the electric cord, Uncle Steve arrived with a ‘I broke the slide’ panic message.

Sure enough. That long slide on the driver’s side was still extended and there was a damaged area on his rig.

The guys investigated and after a bit of analysis, they were able to make a temporary fix and bring in the slide.

We bumped up the road needing to be resurfaced, past all the French signage, and arrived at our campground just before 1pm.  This campground offers Wi-Fi IF you want to pay a daily rate for it.  For $3.50 a day, you receive 2 codes to use on two devices.  Decision time….which two devices?

We received an escort to our nice long pull thru site

by the husband of the gal who checked us in.  She was speaking French with the camper at the counter, but she switched to English when it was our turn at the counter.  After setting up, the guys got to work performing a permanent fix to the slide issue.

Once again, Dad shook his head at the cheap screws used to hold things in place.  That, coupled with too many items in the bay seemed to be the cause of the issue.  But never fear.  Dad and Uncle Steve travel with tools and hardware and are good at repairs.

Aunt Carol was stirring a pot on her stovetop during the final test to make sure everything was in alignment.  As the slide went out, her pot moved further away from her.  But when the slide came back in, she could once again give the pot a stir.  Just a small challenge to getting dinner prepared.

I’m sure glad Momma and Aunt Carol weren’t needed to assist with the repairs.  They found time to sit outside with me and toss my ball for me. I was a bit worried this morning when Dad announced that it was only 50 degrees out.  But by this afternoon, it just made it into the 70’s so we could enjoy some outside time.  I sure didn’t want all this lush grass to go to waste.

Now that the slide was repaired, it was time to put a shine on the nose of the rigs
And remove the hitchhiker from Uncle Steve's grill.

Today, being September 1st , is the beginning of Momma’s birthday month.  Why not celebrate the whole month?  After all, you never know what will happen next year, so make the most of it and celebrate the month.  Aunt Carol decided to surprise Momma on the first day of her birthday month with brownies and a gift bag. Happy ‘almost’ birthday Momma!!

I didn’t get to sample the brownies, although there was one left on the plate.  I got up on my hind legs to check it out, but all I got was a quick sniff as both Momma and Dad were watching and alert.
