Montreal's Train Museum

 September 6, 2023

KOA Montreal South site 114

Montreal, QC

Today's adventure took the two-legged away for most of the day again.  This time it was trains that were calling them.  They programmed the GPS and arrived at a small parking lot that left them wondering what they were getting into.  There was no building or even trains in sight, but there was a bit of signage.  They followed the gravel path that turned a corner and saw what appeared to be a ticket booth with a sign that stated tickets were being sold in the main building.  As they walked further, they began to see some train tracks and train cars....even a turn table.

The beginning of their adventure may have appeared doubtful, but that doubt was soon replaced by awe.   Inside the enormous building, the sight that greeted them was awesome.  So many trains all inside a HUGE building.  The employees told the story about having to refund tickets to some because the display is so overpowering.  Being so close to so many gigantic engines and train cars.

Well displayed with walkways and platforms for closer looks, it's a room full of history!

There was even an open air car that was built for a vacation in the fresh air ...out of the city.

Street cars were on display.

Not only were trains used for people moving.  They moved goods as well, including livestock until refrigeration cars were built.

Sometimes the tour even let them step inside the train car or engine.

Both guys took their turn in the engineer's seat.
And then the adventure got even better when the gal who conducts student field trips asked us if we would like to see the inside of the restored, sleeper car.  She took out her key and led the way.

A pullman was assigned to the car and he would change the seating to bunks for the night.

Such elegance

The guide also told us about a movie that was available to be viewed that told the story of how the tracks were laid in western Canada and thru the mountainous terrain.  What a well done movie that we watched after taking a trolley ride around the property.

Definitely a good day for the two-legged and a museum worth adding to your Montreal bucket list.

But the day didn't end there.  They had decided on dinner at a restaurant recommended at the campground that also received a recommendation from the guide at the museum.  It was close to the campground and convenient to get to so off they headed to Baton Rouge.  Upon arrival, they found a sign on the door with the message that the restaurant was closed and would reopen on September 11th.
Time for Plan B....a restaurant on the other side of the parking lot.
The greeting, 'bonjour' was followed with the statement that they only had menus printed in French.  After checking out the menu...without even any pictures to assist....Plan C was in play.  Another Baton Rouge Restaurant was located a few miles away...and this one was open!
Dinner at a restaurant with menus printed in English followed by games and treats for me.  Another day has drawn to a close.

I'm Chloe
