Travel Day: Hime’s to Ottawa; Camp Hither Hills site
1
Griffin’s to Lake George, NY;
Whippoorwill Campground and Motel
This morning, Momma told me to say ‘Good Bye’ to Auntie Carol and Uncle Steve.
What?? They have their slides pulled in and their jacks retracted. Even the jeep is hooked onto the rear of the coach. What’s up with this? Won’t they just follow along with us? What do you mean they have to get home? Did you say their son’s family will be coming for a mid-September visit? Can’t they just fly down and see them and then join up with us again? Don’t you know how much I’m going to miss those nightly visits when game time rolls around? Aunt Carol always arrived with her pockets full of treats and she always made time to play with me before settling into a game with the two-legged. I wonder if I’ll survive?!? I may need therapy.
So we continued on with our summer adventure without our sidekicks. We found traffic to be light today on our western route into Ontario.
It is nice to be back into the land of bilingual signage.Sometimes the sign was printed with both Engish and French and other times, we would see a sign in English followed by a duplicate sign in French.
Everything was sailing along smoothly until we turned off on RR8. What a disaster of a road!
It seemed to be an area that had too much heavy truck traffic
and the road conditions had been seriously compromised. Wow! That’s a huge Amazon Warehouse taking up a whole block. What’s with all these dump
trucks on this road? We still had 9
miles to go and just as Momma said she wasn’t sure she could survive much more
of this road, it smoothed out for enjoyable ride once again.
We spotted the large sign for our campground,
so we turned into the driveway. Then Momma looked at Dad as Dad turned to look at Momma and they both had a ‘What are we getting into?’ expression. First impression was …this is a tired campground.
The grass needed mowing and the campers they could see had some age on them. The office was attached to the house with a sign on the door that said ring the bell before entering. Momma found herself in a small room/office, dimly lit, with no one around. After a few minutes, the senior citizen made his way from another part of the house and asked, ‘How can I help you?’
With map in hand, Momma returned to our Ram and we headed further into the campground to site #1, a full hook up 50 amp back in site. We have lots of room on our left and a decent amount of space on our door side between us and our class A neighbors.
Dad stated that he wished they would have mowed the long
grass. The mosquitoes seemed to have
taken up residence and by the time we were set up, Dad had at least 2 bites
from the hungry mosquitoes. I sure hope
they mow soon or Momma and Dad won’t want to sit outside or play outside with
me.
Well, our washer is slinging the clothes around and the convection oven is emitting some tempting bread baking smells. I guess this is a ‘catch up’ day for around the rig tasks. With rain in the forecast, that’s probably a good idea.
I wonder if I can snag a loaf of that great smelling whole wheat bread. The other morning I got lucky and scored what was left of the cream cheese.... a third of a package that was laid out for their bagels. Now they are back on high alert and watching me too closely.Auntie Carol called to say they are no longer in Canada. They wouldn’t let her keep her citrus and
chicken is also on the list of items that you can’t cross the border with.
They have settled into a campground for the night in Lake George,
New York. The afternoon entertainment is
a hot rod show so the streets are crowded.
But she did manage to get her afternoon ice cream treat.
I guess I'm just going to have to spend the night dreaming of Auntie Carol's evening treats.
I watched for their arrival thru the window in the door, but they didn't arrive.I wonder if they are missing me as much as I'm missing them?I'm Chloe
