River Country CG site 30
Clearview, NB
Moncton was just a one nighter so we are on the road again
today. We are making our way…. without
any heavy travel days…toward Quebec City.
It’ll take us 2 nights here at River Country and one additional night in
Kamouraska, QC before we arrive at our next ‘goal’. But let me assure you, we will enjoy our stops
along the way. Today was no exception.
As we departed TCH 2, we saw a sign for Florenceville-Bristol that stated, “French Fry Capital of the World”.
Now that sounded promising. Especially when we spotted the Potato World Museum. What an education on potatoes.
Were you aware that
potatoes originated in South America, specifically Peru and Bolivia, and it was the Spanish sailors who brought them to Europe. North America was introduced to the potato by the Irish Immigrants in 1719. There are over 3,000 varieties of potatoes but only 100 are grown on a regular basis.
The museum was full of information
as well as old farming equipment used in the past to harvest potatoes.
Now the farmers use technology to determine soil deficiencies that need to be addressed as well as monitoring weather.
The River Country campground owner is in her second year of ownership and has been making improvements. Unfortunately, good internet is not one of the improvements. We can only connect right by the office, and even then, it isn't anything to get excited over. Momma tried to backup her pictures and she finally just gave up...and took more pictures instead. Like this cute game board someone painted.
This is one of the many seasonal campers and unfortunately, they must only come out on the weekends so there was no one home to chat with.
The campground owner makes homemade ice cream in several flavors. By now, I'm sure you have figured out that ice cream is a favorite for this gang. So of course they had to have ice cream for dessert after enjoying burgers and potatoes at Potato World.
They didn't share any of that ice cream with me, but Auntie Carol had my nightly treats ready for me. I have her trained to provide before game treats as well as after game treats. I'm working on mid-game treats to expand on my intake. I'll call it intermission with treats. I know she'll get there. She just can't say no to me!
