Lisbon Beach and Campground site 70
Ogdensburg, NY
It was a lazy morning as we didn't have very far to travel. We will be staying on the other side of the St. Lawrence River in Ogdensburg, New York tonight. It was a cloudy morning and those low lying clouds made for a gloomy look as we crossed the St. Lawrence River.
I really liked our border crossing agent. He asked if he could give me a treat. Say yes, Dad....say yes!! Yummy. He only asked Dad a couple of additional questions about where we are headed? Did we have anything to declare? What our license plate number is? I guess that is what is referred to as breezing through ....and we were on our way.
Check-in was unusal at Lisbon Beach Campground. The staff of 4 in the office were all in their 20's. We had already paid for our site so the young gal at the desk gave Momma a receipt and had her sign a paper. "You are all set," she stated and dismissed Momma. Now Momma knew her site number before she even entered the office, but what she didn't know was the location of site 70. "Oh, I guess I can show you on the map." One of the boys offered to escort us, but the girl tried to shrug him off. He decided to make us feel welcome and said he would be out front to escort us. Not only did he escort us, he dragged the picnic table from the center of our site off to the side so we could back in...on the driver's blind side. Blind side backing in isn't the best situation, but Dad handles backing in like a pro so we had no worries. After an offer to assist us in settling in on our site, which we declined, he parted with an 'enjoy your stay'.
Momma said she thought this might be a place to return to and spend more time here. The sites were spread out and well maintained. We backed up to a grassy field. The geese were enjoying part of that large area.
And the campground is located right on the St. Lawrence River. The only downside to our site was the fact that previous campers had put down a patio mat and killed all the grass in our door area.
Ogdensburg had a Walmart as well as a Price Chopper. Momma FINALLY found some potato flakes to feed her bread starter. And Dad FINALLY found some table salt in packages with pour spouts to use to recharge our water softener. Momma also purchased some items in the brands that she likes that weren't available while we were traveling in Canada this summer. Ahhhh...good to be back in the USA.
Dad smiled as he pumped diesel fuel that was down to $4.69 a gallon. A much cheaper price than $1.97 a liter!! Of course he might have even added a whoop if the pricing was back to the June 1st price we paid of $3.18. But being out of the 'over $5 a gallon' range was good enough for a smile.
I am still missing my travel mates but they have stayed in touch letting us know of their progress as they head for home. They didn't really care for their second campground where they had planned to spend 2 nights....or the weather in that area....so they left after one night. They even received a refund for the second night they didn't use. They liked their Candy Hill campground site in Virginia with paving. But Auntie Carol said she is missing me and told Momma to be sure to give me a treat and let me know that it was from Auntie Carol. No gaming here tonight, but we have our USA wifi hotspot working once again so Momma and Dad are streaming a movie.
I guess I'll just digest my treat from Auntie Carol until it is time for my 'last call' out the door duty time.
I'm Chloe
