B'day

 September 27, 2023

Indian Brave CG site 6

Harmony, PA

The day has arrived.  Momma is now officially one year older.  What's that saying?  Older and wiser?  Well, she is wiser for sure.  We are at Indian Brave Campground, where we stayed last year.  We learned the hard way last year that if you arrive before 2pm, they charge you $10 extra, so we made certain our arrival was after 2pm.  Wiser!!

But there was still no one at the office.  This year, instead of calling a phone number, there is a Ring doorbell.  After a few minutes wait, a voice finally inquired as to why the bell was rung.  The response was, I'll be there shortly.  So that made Momma question whether she should request a $10 refund seeing as she waited a lengthy time for someone to finally open the office.  After all, this campground firmly believes that time is money.

While waiting for the office to open, Momma read a sign for the rates for bringing YOUR golfcart to the campground.  An extra added fee.  They certainly don't put that money toward road upkeep.  Maybe they just keep the bumpy road as an effort to reinforce the 5mph speed throughout the campground??

This campground is close to Momma's niece's family. Her great nephew, Oliver is definitely a heart-stealer.

Oliver is just my size.  We can look eye to eye.

Momma's b'day began with her favorite breakfast...Dad's French toast, but with an extra twist of cranberry walnut sour dough bread and syrup from Sprague's Maple Farm.

The day finished off with a family dinner....Sarah's ribs with beans and coleslaw and quality time with Oliver.
And his mom and dad

What a great family you have Oliver!  No wonder you are such a happy boy.

Cuba, NY

Did you bring back anything for me?  What's in the bags?

Ah, cheese...and more cheese....and more cheese....and pickled sweet fire beets.  Cuba Cheese Shoppe has over 425 different varieties of cheeses to select from.  Not only do they sell cheese, they offer crackers, jellies, salad dressings, candies, maple syrup, kitchen gadgets.  It's definitely a shoppe on steroids.  If you come out of the shoppe empty handed, there is something wrong with you.  Momma was chuckling at the large bags that people were carrying out of the shoppe as she entered....wondering how they could fill a bag so full.....and then she gathered enough items to nearly fill a bag herself. As the sign says, Experience the Power of Cheese!

I know everyone worked hard giving the 5er and the Ram a tubby today.  I just couldn't believe how dirty we had gotten just in one travel day.  Here's hoping we are traveling on dry roads when we depart tomorrow, Wednesday. I'm sure glad this campground doesn't have a restriction on vehicle washing.

When we arrived yesterday, I took one look and thought, "Oh my, what is this place?"  It looks a tad 'tired'.

No wonder the gal said we didn't have to check in at an office.  What office?  Our site was prepaid at the Passport America Rate of $25 a night.  That means the full rate for a site is $50.  Our site is long and we do have full hook up.  There is a fire ring and a nice picnic table but the grass could use a trim.

There are only a few campers here.  I guess it is nearing the end of the camping season in New York.

Cuba is a cute little town with some interesting old, well maintained houses lining the streets.

And there is a bit more fall color in this area.

Dad took Momma to Sprague's Maple Farm in nearby Portville for dinner.  With 'farm' in the name and knowing they specialize in maple syrup, the expectation was a sugar shack, not this over the top, as far away from rustic as you can get scene.  Check out the entrance,

And the building

All in a manicured setting

Needless to say, the food was also over the top delicious.  Both turkey dinners were excellent: turkey over biscuits and the warm turkey sandwich with sweet potato fries covered to keep it warm until at the table.

Even the gift shop was first class.

With a playground for the kids, they have it all covered at Sprague's.

I just wish they wouldn't keep putting those leftovers in the refrigerator. My dog bowl is right there handy to fill....just saying...

On to Cuba, NY

What kind of weather is this?  Drizzle...on a pack up and travel day.  At least it isn't a downpour...just a sprinkle.  Dad didn't even bother with his raincoat.

Momma was hoping for some sunshine so she could snap some photos but instead, she had to time her shots between the intermittent swipes of the wiper blades and take some cloudy day pics.

Being fall and chilly with a temp of 55 at mid morning, one would expect...hope...to see more color than just the browns and yellows.

As we rode through VanHornesville, Momma FINALLY located some red.

Just one showy tree with a bit of red.

We enjoyed spending time with our friends.  I got to visit and play with Heidi.

She plays keep away rather then fetch and return.  But I was able to outsmart her going into stealth mode and snatching the ball
to give to one of the two-legged to toss.

My playday earned me a trip to Tractor Supply to the dog wash tub.

Momma said it was much too cold for a tailgate tubby.

After I got all cleaned up, you would think I would have deserved a trip to Granny's.  I think I would have enjoyed a cone of ice cream...more than Bob and Kathy's skinny, new friend.
Hey, Aunt Carol, they even had pistachio at the bottom of the list.

It was a cold evening so the fire was appreciated.

We made some great memories while staying in St. Johnsville, NY but we have moved on and we are REALLY showing it....as in road grime.  There was just enough moisture/rain to wet the roads and turn us into a nasty mess.  Too bad it couldn't have been followed by a rinsing downpour.

I think I know what will be on the schedule for tomorrow.  Rig and truck tubby day!!
