Moving on to Foley, Alabama

 April 5, 2024

Pirate Cove RrrrV Resort

Foley, Alabama

It's travel day today.  We packed up and Momma got behind the wheel as we began our journey.  Momma said she felt like she was driving the slumber truck.  As soon as we got onto I-65, Dad and I both nodded off.  Momma said she can understand, as it was a rather boring ride on a tree lined highway, with the varing shades of green for entertainment.

That is until the "me first" drivers arrived zipping in, out, and around each other as they played leap frog for 'me first' position.  A semi in the passing lane was inching past another semi which slowed down the 'hurried' cars that were gathering in the passing lane.  But some drivers decided they could get ahead of that string of cars by using the right lane and cutting back into the passing lane, even though they really didn't gain much and just caused aggravation.

Our caravan friends arrived at the rest area for a break in staggered fashion, reflecting our staggered departure earlier in the day.  Some were departing as some were arriving to grab a snack or sandwich and to stretch their legs.  It was a good stopping point to break up the trip.

Upon arrival, there was no waiting packet for us.  It seems the worker had entered our arrival date as tomorrow's date...and someone was occupying the site we had been assigned.  It didn't appear to be a major issue, as she gave us about 3 choices of different sites.  We are still close to our friends.  Just parked on the opposite side from them across the street instead of in back of them.  Whew!!  Glad the park had open sites available.

Happy hour today took place in downtown Foley at Stacey's Old Tyme Soda Fountain.
The decor was unique as there was a train running on a track around the room near the ceiling.
And there was plenty of memorabilia from the old pharmacy days.

But the main attraction that brought the group to the shop was the hand dipped ice cream treats. As in sundaes

Banana splits
Yep, that was Dad's dinner

As well as dips of ice cream in waffle cones, cake cones or served in a dish.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the selection they made from the numerous offerings available

As the men gathered outside the shop,

The gals headed down the street to explore the shops which turned into a trip down memory lane when they entered the shop on the corner.

Along with some never heard of popcorn flavors.....French Toast, banana pudding, orange....etc.
No wonder the shop was called Yabba's Wacky Snack Shack.  It truly lived up to its name!!  You could have even brought home a gummy pizza as they sold more than just your typical gummy bears.

This campground is called a resort for a good reason.  There is a list of amenities as long as your arm from pools to karaoke to food trucks on site.  The park roads are paved and the camping sites are concrete with some lush grass that I can belly down in.  Momma, have you captured a picture of our site or were you too busy eating ice cream and touring the downtown area?  Oh well, maybe tomorrow as the weatherman has promise us another beautiful day, just like today😉

I'm Chloe
