Isle of New Iberia - site 54
New Iberia, Louisiana
Today began with beignets in the clubhouse that were scheduled to be ready by 9am but I think the cooks got into the Bloody Marys also being offered so the those puffy squares of dough, fried in oil and covered in confectioners sugar weren't ready until 9:30.
Are they ready yet? |

The pig will be hung from the hook to be cooked by the fire |
I got to visit my 4 legged friends Sue and Izzy this morning along with Bob and Reba.
Duck Reba or you may get some dog slobber on your head! |
And then the two legged headed out to Vermilionville Historical Village
where they walked around a recreated village that shared life in the past.
Interior walls insulated with moss, twigs and mud |
Being a Sunday, Momma said she was expecting more docents in the buildings, but the only one they met was this gentleman with his accordian in the old schoolhouse.
At dinner, after the pig was served up with some Cajun dirty rice,
the Golden Triangle Campers held a celebration enjoying a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting made by Carol for her husband, Steve's birthday. Can you guess how old he is?
And I'm sure you'll never guess what flavor his favorite cake is....or favorite ice cream flavor as well!!
And of course, the festival day came to a close with another Cajun band, Corey Ledet with his friends playing Zydeco music.
As the band members explained, Zydeco is cajun blues. The first day, it was explained that the accordian is the leading instrument of the band, but Momma said she thought someone forgot to tell the guitar player. He was a very talented musician who seemed to 'take over' as he played loudly with long licks up and down the neck of his guitar. It was difficult to even hear the accordian. Dad decided he'd rather play with me and came back to the rig before the music ended.
Thanks Dad!!
I'm Chloe
