Bubble burst

Valley River RV Resort

Marble, NC

Just when you were beginning to have confidence....it all turns to mush.  I'm referring to the directions spit out by the GPS.  I know you are nodding your head and saying....'been there....I know what you mean'.

Our Rand McNally GPS wouldn't charge and seeing as we had bought the replacement package, they gave us a new GPS.  The only thing is, due to chip shortages or boats unable to off load or Rand McNally sold to new owners or ???  the only model that was available was a Garmin 780.  We headed out from home listening to a new voice guiding us along the way and she was really doing a great job these past two weeks.  Dad said he was glad we swapped over to a Garmin as it seems to be doing a GREAT job...not a mess-up.... better than our old Rand....and then....Momma went to Walmart.  It's only 2 miles up the road from the campground on the left, but seeing as she is still bonding with the new GPS, she decided to practice entering locations and set the Garmin for guidance.  Well, Garmin lady said take a right at the light, turn left, travel 1/2 a mile, turn left, turn left again and then a right into Walmart.  HUH???  There sits Walmart with a nice turn lane on the LEFT and she said turn right??!!  What's all this go past and around the block business?  Chalk up failure number one for Garmin lady.  She just burst the confidence bubble.

But she did get us to the Cannery Interpretive Center without a miss-turn.  The Cannery was build back in 1930 by the CCC as a place were the locals could can their food.  A way to combat botulism.

The stone building still stands today but it no longer serves as a cannery which is now in a new location.  A wonderful volunteer guide shared some history as well as her knowledge of the native plants as we followed the well maintained walkways.  The guide pointed out a pottery building where they attempted to make vessels to hold the sorgum, but the clay in the area wasn't condusive to creating strong pots, so that was a bust.

The Cherokee used trees as trail guide posts.  They would bend a tree sapling and over time it would create a pointer guiding the way to a hunting trail or water source etc.
Momma cut off part of the pointer on the right side of the pic, but you can kind of get the idea if you just complete the jutting elbow on the right side.

The volunteer said if you return in two weeks, there will be a whole new look as many of the summer plants will be in full bloom.

Momma and Dad had a fun day while I napped.  Okay, I was supposed to be on guard duty, but there are numerous empty sites here and most everyone has gone out for the day so....naptime.  I needed to be rested and be ready for some ball time but Dad said it was just too hot and we should wait until later this evening.  He showed me the temperature on his phone and it was actually hotter here than at our house!!  Add in the dew point of 76 (humidy is building daily) and it feels even warmer than the thermometer reads.  This is some strange weather here for this time of year.

I'm Chloe
