Day two: travel day

 June 2, 2022

Gunter Hill COE

Montgomery, Al

The day kicked off with Peach Blueberry Crumble, a quick warm breakfast after two minutes in the microwave oven.

Fresh peaches and blueberries sprinkled with cinnamon sugar plus a pinch of nutmeg, topped with delicious Koinonia Farm granola with a tablespoon of butter.  Just give it a quick zap in the micro....warm and tasty.

Dad expertly wove us past the buildings on Koinonia Farm and out onto to highway as we began our 160 mile trip.

The first part of the drive gave off a warm, fuzzy feeling as we traveled past stately Victoria style, two story homes with wrap around porches in Plains and Richland.  Pecan groves and farmer's crops sprinkled the roadway between the small towns. But that only lasted for the first quarter of the trip. Then we turned onto the less enjoyable four lane highway that was just a step down from congested .  By the time we were approaching the final third of our journey, we found ourselves in a parking lot.  Okay, so it wasn't really a parking lot as we WERE moving..... about 3 mph.  Construction on I-85 had the two lanes merging into one lane and there were just too many vehicles on the highway causing a crawl for several miles.  I got to nap in the back seat for longer than expected with the added slowdown to our trip.  But when you look at the clock displaying Central Time, it gives the illusion of a short trip today.

We are set up on site 37 at Gunter Hill Corps of Engineer Park on the outskirts of Montgomery, Alabama.  It's a lovely, LONG pull thru site with full hook up and some shade. We just love the $15 a night price with our Golden Senior Pass.  We can stay here for 3 nights for less than we will be paying for 1 night when we arrive in the northeast.

Dad was wondering what he was going to do to stay entertained while we are here.  Momma told him she has plans....but then Dad looked up as he passed by the dining room slide out and he is making plans of his own.........project time!!

It appears that we have a slide cable that has nearly broken thru.  The good thing is, it hasn't totally broken....yet.  Then Dad tried to rotate the antenna for the strongest signal...... but it didn't want to turn....hmmmm.  Project number 2 to be tackled in the morning before the temperate begins to climb on our roof.

I like the fact that the sites here aren't real close together.  In other words, there is room for me to play ball.  I got warm and so did my ball so I dunked it in the water bowl to cool it off.  heehee

I think I'm going to enjoy my stay here.

I'm Chloe
