Deerlick Creek COE site 22
Tuscaloosa, Al
I'm thinking we just might be returning to this campground one day.
It is well maintained. The hosts were super pleasant. You didn't even need to get out of your vehicle to check in. Just roll forward to the window at the gate house. The sites are paved concrete pads and laid out nicely with patio/deck areas.
The down side is no sewer at the site....so we just won't stay too many nights...but the dump station is laid out nicely.
And then there is the issue of the speed bumps.
We bumped over six (6) of them before arriving at our site. At first blush one would wonder why the speed bumps were necessary when the road curves and bends which definitely doesn't encourage speeding. But when you analyse the location of those bumps, it begins to make sense. The first one is located at check-in. The next two double sets are located either side of the walking trails that cross over the road. Note: paved walking trail through the woods. The final one was at a roadway intersection for a loop.
Momma didn't notice the basketball court or the corn hole game until we were emptying our tanks on our way out. Nice set up!!
Just passing through Tuscaloosa, we were impressed with the area. On the edge of the city, closest to the campground (10 miles), we shopped at a really nice Publix and found reasonably priced (for these times ~ $5.39) fuel at a nice Circle K. Most all the 'things to do' were closed on Monday and that was our visiting day. Yep, we'll have to return to take in available area attractions.
Momma and Dad did stop to snap a couple of pics of Lake Tuscaloosa and the spillway.
That was a Corps of Engineer Project according to the plaque.
We even traveled on
does that say New Watermelon Road?
It sure does!! Where do they come up with these names? There isn't a watermelon in sight on this road. Just high-end, nicely manicured housing developments and a golf course on this road. Go figure!! Now Lake Nicols Rd makes perfectly good sense as Lake Nicols is located along the road.
Dad said he even spotted two deer about 2 sites down from us at the campground. I had my nose to the ground and missed seeing them. You would have thought Dad could have been nice enough to call my attention to those playmates. I'll have to be more alert to what is around me and not just be nose to the ground focused if we ever return.
I'm Chloe
