River's Edge Mountain RV, Murphy, NC
Another travel day today. Dad said he wanted to travel through Atlanta on a Sunday as he figured traffic would be lighter. As it turned out, there are still plenty of people out and about but we never had a slow down issue, even when the road was rather full on the stretch when 85 and 75 run together. We didn't have any issues at all changing lanes to be where we needed to be as the roads branched off and split.
Not much in the way of rest stops today so we made sure to catch an early stop to swap out the med bag before it ran dry. Yep, drugs in the rest stop again today. Just 5 more bags/days to go!! Has it really been over 5 weeks of meds already? And Dad still forgets to grab the bag he is tethered to until the hose gets tight and grabs his attention: "hey, you forgot the med pump/bag"
Further north, we did locate a lot large enough to accommodate us at a closed on Sunday business right next to a Race Track that was much too crowded to even attempt to fuel up. So we did something we don't normally do. We hit the road working off the bottom half of our tank. As we got into the Georgia Mountains, the gage seemed to be dropping quicker as we chugged up the inclines. Dad was watching the read out of the miles of travel left on the fuel consumption readout. When we hit Blue Ridge, we finally found a station that we could slide into. At that point, we had 43 miles left in our tank according to the readout and 19 miles left to travel according to our GPS. Now that's unusual for us!!
The campground owner was out mowing and didn't answer the number posted to call on the registration building when we arrived, but he spotted us sitting at the entrance and gave us an escort to our LONG, super sized pull through site where we will spend the next 16 nights.
We have plenty of room to park our truck in front of our rig or behind it. As it turned out, the space behind our rig was filled with a large van. Our neighbors from home have property nearby in Blairsville. They had attended church in Murphy and then made a stop at Lowes. The timing was perfect as we had just arrived when they pulled in for a visit. I was still lounging in the backseat of the truck while Momma and Dad set up the rig but Momma let me out so I could greet them. Tim even helped Dad attach our awning sun screen.
We only had a short drive thru rain today. Wouldn't you know, just as we were approaching Blue Ridge where we hoped to locate a gas station we could slide into, we drove thru a HEAVY rain that really cut down on visibility. But as we entered the business area, we ran out of rain. WHEW!! That could really have been challenging for sure!! Our travel angel was riding with us today.
I think I'm going to like this campground....lots of green grass with spacing between sites...and it is freshly mowed!!
I'm Chloe
