A soggy, damp, cold day

 March 10, 2025

Georgia National Fairgrounds, Perry, GA

FRVA Rally Lot A Row 10-1

The weekend began early on a Thursday, in Eustis, Florida at Southern Palms RV Resort with our Golden Triangle camping family.  The weather was lovely for our happy hour gatherings and outdoor games.....and just sitting outside the rig enjoying fellowship.  We even got to enjoy some time with visiting friends who used to camp with us.  Carolyn, Penny and Cookie arrived on Saturday and Momma joined them for lunch at Stavro's right across the street.  Stavro's serves a super tasting Greek Salad according to Momma.

On Sunday, we bid everyone happy trails and headed north after swinging by the house to snag a couple of forgotten items.  It'll be a month before this journey brings us back to Summerfield.  I'm sure glad Momma grabbed an extra warm jacket from the house.  When we hit Gainesville, we ran into some rain much to Dad's dismay.  He had our rig shining with the wash and polish job, but alas, the wet roads added a touch of road grime to our appearance.  As we crossed the border into Georgia,

the light rain persisted and the temperature reading on the truck's info screen was showing 48 degrees.  WHAT???  Cold and damp for sure.

Everyone was delighted that there was a lull in the rain when we arrived at Fair Harbor Campground.  I can't think of anyone who enjoys setting up in the rain.  We may not have had to set up in rain coats on Sunday evening, but we had to pack up and set up in a light rain on Monday morning.  Notice I said LIGHT rain.  Just enough to make it a damp cold this morning.

Everyone wanted an early start so Aunt Pam got to experience two firsts today. #1: Packing up in the dark (with the clock springing forward it was still dark at 7:15am)  #2:  Dealing with the packing up and setting up in the rain. (But she hasn't really gotten the full JOY of doing it in a heavy down pour.  This morning was just a taste of wet.)

Now you may be wondering why the early pack up.  Well, we are at the fairgrounds for the FRVA rally and we wanted to get a good spot seeing as we will be here for the week.  As it turned out, we were definitely the early birds as our group of three rigs scored the first three spots in Lot A.  By arriving as soon as the gates opened, we were set up before they even turned on the generator that will be supplying our power while we are here.

The Ram got Dad's attention on Sunday as we started up the engine to go scope out our entrance gate to the fairgrounds.  His keen ear picked up on a skipping engine sound.  Hmmmm??  He fed the Ram some injector cleaner and hoped for the best.  When he started the engine on Monday morning, the skip returned but then disappeared.  Hmmm??  After we settled into our spot at the fairgrounds, we decided it might be best to hook up the Ram to a computer to analyze what was transpiring under the hood.  Visiting two different Dodge/Chrysler dealers was disappointing to say the least.  "If you leave the Ram, we might get to it in 2-3 days."  And that would be to just analyze for a possible issue.

But a Google search led us to Limrick Diesel

and the nicest people who really wanted to lend a hand.  Of course, as things usually go, the Ram wasn't 'acting up' so nothing showed on the computer.

But being concerned, caring workers,  he suggested that he would like to come to the fairgrounds on Tuesday morning and start up the engine first thing in the morning to see if it would start up with a skipping engine hooked to his computer that would tell us what the issue might be...if indeed there is an issue.  He shared our concern that we didn't want grind to a halt on the side of the highway somewhere.  I agreed with everyone that being stalled out on the side of the road would not be ideal.  It would definitely cut into my ball playing time!!

Seeing as Momma and Dad weren't far from Buc ee's,

they called back to the fairgrounds and got everyone's order for brisket sandwiches.  Now, if only they had given ME a phone, I could have placed an order as well.  But it seems that I will be eating the same old dog food.

The official start of the rally is on Wednesday.  I guess we will be watching additional rigs entering the fairgrounds tomorrow.  They will get to set up without rain as the skies will be clear by tomorrow.

I'm Chloe
