Moving on to Waycross: Pebble HIll

 March 30, 2025

Pebble Hill CG site 16

Waycross, GA

Knowing today was travel day and the prediction had been for rain in the morning, everyone packed up everything but their electric cord the night before.  Seeing as we all were so prepared, the rain decided to show itself later so we were able to begin our travel on dry roads.  Yea!!

With limited traffic sharing the road with us (possibly due to it being a Sunday), we had an easy travel day....well, until the rain presented itself.  But even then it wasn't a nasty downpour.

About an hour into our drive, we encountered out first light rain.  Roughly thirty minutes later, our rig and our shadow, Pam,

stopped to take a break.  Just as Dad was departing the rig with his freshly made cup of coffee, the rain intensity increased significantly.  And where were the raincoats?  In the Ram of course....out of reach.  Oh well.  What's a little rain going to do?  It's just water after all.  Water that those thirsty, colorful azaleas were greedily soaking up as we enjoyed their vibrant display while traveling the highway.

We drove the last of the travel day over dry roads and our timing was perfect for setting up our rig without a single drop of rain.  Unfortunately, those who arrived after we were set up weren't as lucky.

Our campground host/owners are over the top accommodating.  We have lovely pull thru sites with comfortable spacing between sites. We also have exclusive use of a wonderful clubhouse with a kitchen, that amazingly enough even has a stove.  The campground owners even provided dish towels for our use and tablecloths on the tables. The only negative is the location of the clubhouse which they have tried to make easier to access with the use of two golf carts which would be marvelous .... if the rain would disappear.  Dad might have gotten a tad damp running from the rig to the Ram with his coffee during break, but Momma got drenched as she road in the gold cart with Missy, the owner who shared what was available at the campground.  And she had her raincoat on!😏  What began as a soft rain took a violent turn and needless to say, that rain coat did nothing to protect her pants from the heavy burst of rain that the wind whipped under the golf cart cover.  They were caught in surprise damp, giggle moment for sure.

Happy hour was well attended once again

We do have three guys who had some health issues that they blamed on the rich food they ingested.  But it just might have been a 24 hour bug that had them running to the bathroom???  Two of them are still feeling a tad 'under the weather' so they decided not to share their germs at happy hour.  Hopefully, they'll be at full capacity by tomorrow and will be able to socialize once again.

Back in time: Old Governor's Mansion

 March 28, 2025

Scenic Mountain CG site 47

Milledgeville, GA

I'm sure you'll have to agree that this a good looking group.

In the background is the Old Governor's Mansion that has been restored back to the period in time when Howell Cobb was governor, 1851-1853  The tour is run by the college.  The group had arrived in a timely fashion, ready to purchase tickets for the tour, but the college student/tour guide with the key had yet to arrive.  Lots of time for pictures.

And time to enjoy the spring flowers.

The tour took us to the area that the servants worked

Did they really bake in this wall oven heated by wood?

in as well as the main floor and then on further up an additional staircase (3 floors up for the servants to travel) to the bedrooms all displaying period furnishings.
check out the decorative window shade

our tour guide

It was interesting to note that the carpet had been laid in strips.  If an area became soiled, that strip was removed for cleaning and then resewn in place.

This key ring looks quite heavy with such large keys.

At the conclusion of the tour, some decided on a Dairy Queen lunch while other headed to Little River Antiques.  What a lovely shop!!

And of course the day wasn't over until the games had been played.  Cards for the two-legged and ball for ME!

Enjoying MIlledgeville

March 27, 2025

Milledgeville, GA

Scenic Mountain CG site 47

I probably could have written this earlier but, you know how every job needs a good supervisor?  Well, I figured if I did an outstanding job supervising while Dad washed

and Momma applied the squeegee on the rig and the Ram, I would be rewarded with a game of retrieve the ball until my tongue hangs so low I get it tangled in my paws.  The only problem with that theory was Dad was tired and the wash job finished just in time to go across the campground road to the shade of the clubhouse for happy hour.  Pooh!  And here I thought I had a fool proof plan.

The morning was spent with the caravan gang heading into Milledgeville for a trolley tour that was loaded with history.

Georgia had five different capital cities with Milledgeville being number four.  The old capital building is now part of the Military Academy.

Our tour guide and driver did an excellent job
driving us around the streets of Milledgeville, pointing out the various historical buildings and sharing a story about each.

At the conclusion of the trolley tour, most walked the older streets of Milledgeville, some stopping for a bite to eat

while Dad sought out the barber shop for a much needed trim.

I'm happy to report that Dad is as handsome as ever with his stylish cut.

Momma decided he needed a reward/sweet treat before returning to me so they stopped off at Dairy Queen for a blizzard.

The day ended in typical fashion for this group .... with a card game.  What began as 11 grew to thirteen players sitting around the tables pushed together for a rowdy game of Dirty Uno.

Dad and I decided it was finally time for our own game of ....yep, you guessed it.... retrieve the ball until my tongue hangs low.  What  a fun way to end the day!😁

Game day in Augusta

March 25, 2025

Augusta, GA

Diamond Lake CG-site 22

The weather was perfect for outdoor games.  The first round of Beanbag Baseball began at 11.  It was a slow start that quickly gained momentum by the blue team.  There is a 5 run rule in an inning that had to be followed more than once as the runs began to stack up.  And here they are...that winning blue team.

The rematch was scheduled for 2 but the start was delayed a tad.  Dad went to bleed the brakes on the fifth wheel and discovered that the breakaway wasn't functioning.
Soon Steve came over to see what Dad was up to and when he heard it was a bad breakaway switch,
he graciously offered his spare.

Soon there was lots of assistance/interest

As they waited for the job to be completed before beginning that
afternoon rematch beanbag baseball game.

Each team kept the same players...it was a rematch game...with Jan subbing for Dale.  Want to take a guess as to which team won the afternoon rematch?

If you said the blue team was having a dynamite day, you would be right!

The washer toss/holey board game was brought out.

It's not as easy as you might think to toss those large washers and have them land in the holes on the board.

While one group was playing washer toss/holey board, another group was playing corn hole on the small, portable set.
Yes, the weather was perfect for our outdoor game day.

Tomorrow is travel day and we will be departing this 'strange' site we are in.  We have two sewer connections but one is located on the door side of the rig conveniently located where, if you don't pay close attention, you will trip over it.

You might even fall in due to that large 6 inch pipe.

I'm not sure how anyone would be able to seal that connection when they attach their sewer hose. We don't have anything that will give us a sealed connection.  I guess we'll have sewer smell.

There is also a second power box located on the door side of the rig but only one water connection which also is on the door side.  Yep, that water hose has to run underneath the rig.  Strange set up for sure!!  Always an adventure!

Augusta, Georgia

March 24, 2025

Augusta, GA

Diamond Lakes CG site 22

Momma, why is everything green here?  Even our tires have turned green.

Did you say pollen?  It's spring and the sites are located in amongst the trees.

I don't think I like it.  I'm going to get that yellow-green stuff all over me if I sit by your outside chairs.
I guess that's not a real issue today with the morning rain.  It no sooner stopped raining and everyone headed into Augusta to Goolsby's for some good southern cooked food.
The food was tasty and plentiful with several departing with leftovers in boxes.  I know they aren't doggie bags because I'll never taste a lick of pork tenderloin or the broccoli rice casserole or lima beans. Louise said there we so many great looking choices, it was a tough decision to pick just two sides to accompany her choice of meat.

After the lunch meal, some decided to visit the Augusta Mall walking and shopping the upper and lower levels.....8,700 steps worth!  I guess that's one way to walk off a heavy meal.

Others headed off to Walmart and some to Camping World.

Dad's truck drove his load of friends to visit some antique shops.

Carol and Momma had an interesting experience.  They peeked inside the Peach Roll Ice Cream Shop and saw the worker preparing ice cream rolls.  He poured a liquid onto a cold, round metal area and added some fruit that he chopped up and began to mix with the liquid with his flat metal spatulas.  He kept working the mixture and spreading it out into a pizza looking affair.  He let it set a few minutes to chill on that cold surface, then caught a 3 inch swath with his spatula, pushing it into a rolled up affair which he placed in a dish.  He continued rolling 3 inch swaths, adding them to the dish.  Finally, he added toppings before adding that calorie loaded affair to the customer.  WOW!!  Way too rich....especially after all that lunch. But it was interesting to watch the labor intensive process.

So now everyone is back at camp and ready to enjoy an evening of their choice.  I sure hope a gang drop in later to play a game or two....as that means treats for ME!!

PS:  After getting to speak with the campground administration worker, they found out that the dominoes would be falling today or maybe I should call it 'Musical Rigs'.  Someone did take advantage of signing up for our group's cancelled site and would be arriving today.  So one rig went to overflow to park (no hook ups) while the other camper moved over one site to allow the new people to move in this afternoon.  The overflow is only for one night as there is another site that will open up on Tuesday.

Travel Day

 March 23, 2025

Augusta, GA

Diamond Lakes Campground site 22

Remember my mentioning that I have Dad in training.  Check this out!

I'd call this breakfast in bed!

I wonder if he was feeling guilty this morning for those thoughts he was having.  He couldn't seem to locate his hearing aids this morning and he had the nerve to think I might have eaten them.  Well, if he just had a better memory, he would have remembered exactly where  he put them without even thinking such nasty thoughts.  I tried to tell him to always put them in the same spot and he wouldn't have to go on 'the search'.
Now I just have to work on getting him to give me a full container of yogurt rather than just the leftovers that the spoon missed.  What a way to start a day!!  Maybe another guilt trip will earn me a full container???

It was travel day once again today, heading westerly back into Georgia.

Amazingly, we didn't experience much traffic congestion as we departed the campground and we easily made the turn onto the highway.  The GPS wanted us to head for I-26 which was the longer way mileage wise so Momma just set a couple of waystops to get us on Hwy 64 and keep us there until we reached US-278.

As it turned out, two rigs headed out before us this morning and shared a great location for rest stop break.  One rig arrived before us and then a few arrived just after us

but there was plenty of room for all on the circle path.  The break turned into a bit of a social time while everyone stretched their legs and grabbed lunch or a snack.

The day turned interesting when one of the later arrivals found another of our group already set up in the site they had booked.  Hmmm??  A double booked site?  You have to use Reserve America to book.  Of course when a call was made, you had to leave a call back number.  After checking their personal Reserve America accounts, they finally came to the conclusion that the first party had thought they had booked the site but must have failed to complete that final, last step and the second party was able to book that site as it appeared as an available site.  In the meantime, a member of our caravan is taking time out for repairs and they cancelled their reservation.  That site sat empty but the question remains....is that site showing reserved on the website because the website hasn't updated the cancellation or did the site open up/reflect the cancellation and did someone else quickly reserve that suddenly available site?  Mmm??  So, no one has arrived and claimed that site so all is well and everyone has a site...so far.  Too bad we couldn't reach a person at Reserve America to answer that question.  Maybe tomorrow a real person can be reached to shed some light on the issue.  Hopefully, everyone will be able to stay put and no one else will show up to claim that recently cancelled site currently occupied by our group.

We were surprised that a couple of the sites had campers that decided to make use of their site until the 1pm departure time and were running a tad past that time to vacate the site.  With no campground office, I guess people aren't concerned with rules.  That's life in today's world.

Well, I can't say for sure, as I wasn't invited to happy hour in the afternoon, but I'm pretty sure that Dad didn't tell everyone that he tried to throw me under the bus.  But I tell all...and now you know!
