Exploring Waycross

 March 10, 2026

Pebble Hill RV site 14

Waycross, Georgia

Now where are you heading off to today?  Oh yes, Momma mentioned she had made arrangements at Okefenokee Heritage Center and Southern Forest World for tours.

The Heritage Center

not only has history displays

but they were featuring a fabric art display.  Momma was super impressed with the artistic talent displayed using fabric to create vivid scen
es.

Impressive, artistic creations.

Another room featured additional creations created with tatting threads as well as yarn and....get ready for it....plastic grocery bags crocheted into a purse and matching hat.

The displays continued outside walking past colorful azalea bushes
to arrive at the train.

Situated behind the caboose was Hillard House.

Jim said that the old mattress he saw in the building resembled a poor quality RV mattress (usually one of the first things that gets replaced in an RV).

The next stop was located next door where everyone was treated to a guided tour.

The focus was on wood....forests, products that use wood, and the many jobs related to wood.

What are they looking at?

Oh my!  That poor dog got stuck in the hollow tree and wasn't discovered until loggers cut down the tree and discovered the mummified body.

Making use of another of the campground owner's recommendations, some of the group headed for the Downtown Sandwich Shop.

Missy's recommendations have been excellent!  She also tossed out the name of a Mexican Restaurant that Jim and Michelle decided to visit ....and once again.....Missy's recommendation was excellent.

Louise and Rick headed out to

Googling for the location of the best burgers in the area, they headed out only to discover burgers weren't even on the menu....but the fried chicken was a winner.

The day drew to a close under the awning

after it became too dark to play additional corn hole matches.... or ball fetch...even though I tried my best to convince them that I could probably locate that ball in the dark and bring it back....if only I could convince someone to toss it.
