Hardridge Creek Campground site 72
Abbieville, Alabama
Today was moving day according to the trip schedule but only 40% of our traveling group moved ....without really even getting their engines warmed up. Let me explain.
Last night everyone sat around the fire and discussed the fact that we really wouldn't have to get moving too quickly in the morning as arrival time for R Shaffer Heard Campground is set for 4pm or later. A nice lazy morning was planned.
Tim was monitoring the weather this morning and alerted everyone to the storm including hail and tornadoes in the area of West Point, Georgia and the surrounding area.
Yep, right where we were heading. Now being smart people, the decision was quickly made to stay put right where we are. As it turned out, 6 of the rigs could stay in their current sites as they would be available for the next 3 nights. But 5 rigs would have to relocate to another site as their current site was booked. There were plenty of empty sites to switch to, so everyone is still together at the same campground. Just spread out a tad.Everyone was able to rebook by going on line for this campground but they had to phone Reservation.gov's 877 number to file for a refund for their R Shaffer Heard reservation. Since it was the day of arrival, they were blocked out from online cancellation. Long wait times on hold for that task. Needless to say, everyone had a busy morning rather than the relaxed, lazy morning they had anticipated.
Well, everyone but me. I didn't have a care in the world because Momma and Dad always take good care of me! I just go with the flow and try to take advantage of every opportunity to play that comes my way. I stay ready and keep my ball close, even when I'm napping.
This afternoon, happy hour was held at 3pm because the rain still hadn't made it to us. I got lucky because Louise played ball with me just before the gang arrived to snack on shared treats. I think she likes to play as much as I do!!
When Momma finally was able to speak to the campground host this morning at R Shaffer Heard CG to let her know the group's change of plans, the host said that they had no power and that the community had been hit by a tornado. Her comment was, "It's a mess!!" Check out these pics Momma found on line.
So sorry for those in the path of destruction.
This area was blessed and it didn't even get wet here until dinner time. Once again, our guardian angel was watching over everyone. This campground did have a bit of rain with some wind that broke off a tree,
but it landed on an empty site.So glad everyone is safe and sound.Earlier today, seeing as we were one of the fortunate ones who didn't have to change sites, Momma and Dad had time to head into Eufala in search of a door mat. We departed home with one. We even used it while in Perry, Georgia. Somehow, it never showed up at this location. Momma thought Dad had packed it. Dad thought Momma had packed it. Come to find out, it was really MY turn to pack it and I didnt even know it!! With the rain due, they decided it would be good idea to get something to wipe my paws on.
Everyone had hopes of enjoying a hot dog meal together tonight, but the weather had other ideas for us. Maybe tomorrow???? I wonder if I will be invited to attend?
I'm Chloe
