No lack of things to do

 March 31, 2023

It seems that someone always has an idea for some sort of activity.  Sometimes I'm lucky.....when it's an idea that involves me chasing my ball.

Sometimes it involves the girls piling into a vehicle and heading into town for some shopping and lunch at the Bristo

or some couples heading off to enjoy some local history while touring the Gaineswood Museum.
And ending up at the Bristo for lunch as well.
And even though the food was delicious and plentiful at lunch, it didn't seem to affect anyone's appetite for the evening meal of loaded baked potatoes.
It took 3 crockpots to bake the potatoes for the gang and a table full of toppings to load up those potatoes.
No, I'm sorry to say, I didn't even get a smell much less a taste.  All I got to experience was a view of these tasty loaded potatoes.

Not even Sue was invited to stay for the meal.  Her Dad didn't let her sit on her lap any longer when dinner time rolled around.
I have to jump up to get into my Dad's lap while Sue just leans back and parks her rear end.

Now I'm hoping you'll really feel sorry for me when I share with you what happened next.  As if  it wasn't bad enough that I missed out on loaded potatoes, they didn't share Jan's famous dutch oven peach cobbler with me....and I've heard it's to 'die for'!!

I understand there was even a spoonful of ice cream topping left over.  Maybe Bella got to enjoy a lick of that??

The evening ended with Momma bouncing up the steps to our rig singing,  "I was a winner!"  It seems she won the final round of Nickel, Nickel after Jan won the first and Tony the second round.
I wonder if she'll spend all those nickels she won on something for me.....her special little girl?  Maybe a brand new ball??

Playtime

 March 30, 2023

Foscue Creek CG site 39

Demopolis, Al

We have all been playing games at this campground.  I have a nice grassy area for playing ball

and the two-legged have a nice shady spot for playing corn hole as well as a HUGE picnic table for shared meals

Yummy baked spaghetti with garlic bread

And salad

And of course the meal wouldn't be complete without something from the dessert table.

Pineapple cake with cream cheese frosting or brownies, anyone?

While the meal is settling and being digested it's time to play 'Pass the Trash'....and I'm not referring to garbage....it's a card game.  The object is NOT to be caught with the lowest card.  Everyone is dealt one card and you might have the option of passing it to your neighbor....unless they are holding a king.  I could hear all the laughing and sceaming from the card players all the way down at my site....about 4 sites away.  They made more noise than a couple of yapping dogs!!  A sure sign they were enjoying the evening's game.

Travel day

 March 29, 2023

Today was travel day and unlike the last planned travel day, we actually did depart the campground and locate about 200 miles away near Demopolis, Alabama.  I have to admit, I slept most of the way, but Momma seemed to enjoy the countryside views on the travel.

I might have been dreaming as there aren't any pics, but I thought I heard her say something about the great houses they were passing with wrap around porches complete with rocking chairs.

We even traveled thru some smaller communities.

Some were too small to even have a stop light while some areas seemed to have an over abundance of them.

We are now at another lovely Corps of Engineers Park - Foscue Creek Campground with large sites on the water.  Check out my view from my window.

I am in love with our site.  It has a nice grassy area that is ideal for ball toss and catch.  I invited everyone who stopped by my site yesterday to a game of ball and as it turned out, they wanted to play as much as I did.  What a heavenly afternoon!!  I'm sure glad we will be here 5 nights.  I see a lot of ball playing in my future.

All the sites are large with a fire ring.  The wood was giving us a challenge last night, or maybe it was the lack of draft so..... the guys got creative in order to give everyone a nice campfire.

Just add a little fan air breeze. prop up the lower edge of the ring and you have a campfire any marshmallow would be proud to be toasted over.

I think I'm going to love our stay at this campground.

Don't let the rain get in the way of fun

 March 27, 2023

This morning the weather looked wonderful so Momma and I took a walk down to the pavilion down by the beach.

The afternoon and evening weather forecast didn't look very promising as the possibility of rain was pretty high so we decided to have a hot dog lunch at the pavilion before the rain.  With plenty of parking, 3 large picnic tables under a covered roof, it looked like an ideal spot for a gathering.

The true campers gathered at the pavilion and got settled in before the sky opened up and the thunder began......

while the 'glampers'.....our 'fair weather friends' didn't join us.  I guess you can tell by the picture above, it rained pretty hard during the meal.  You can hardly make out the lake.  But being true campers, everyone took it in stride.

I wonder if all the wet weather had any influence on this wren's choice for nest location?

This little guy was gathering nesting material on top of the wheel fenders under our rig.

Tim has been using this chair daily. In other words, these birds worked quickly to gather this much nesting material in such a short time.

Now me, I prefer a nice soft fluffy dog bed or comfy chair for my nest.

Dodging the bad weather

 March 26, 2023

Hardridge Creek Campground site 72

Abbieville, Alabama

Today was moving day according to the trip schedule but only 40% of our traveling group moved ....without really even getting their engines warmed up.  Let me explain.

Last night everyone sat around the fire and discussed the fact that we really wouldn't have to get moving too quickly in the morning as arrival time for R Shaffer Heard Campground is set for 4pm or later.  A nice lazy morning was planned.

Tim was monitoring the weather this morning and alerted everyone to the storm including hail and tornadoes in the area of West Point, Georgia and the surrounding area.

Yep, right where we were heading.  Now being smart people, the decision was quickly made to stay put right where we are.  As it turned out, 6 of the rigs could stay in their current sites as they would be available for the next 3 nights.   But 5 rigs would have to relocate to another site as their current site was booked.  There were plenty of empty sites to switch to, so everyone is still together at the same campground.  Just spread out a tad.

Everyone was able to rebook by going on line for this campground but they had to phone Reservation.gov's 877 number to file for a refund for their R Shaffer Heard reservation. Since it was the day of arrival, they were blocked out from online cancellation. Long wait times on hold for that task.   Needless to say, everyone had a busy morning rather than the relaxed, lazy morning they had anticipated.

Well, everyone but me.  I didn't have a care in the world because Momma and Dad always take good care of me!  I just go with the flow and try to take advantage of every opportunity to play that comes my way.  I stay ready and keep my ball close, even when I'm napping.

This afternoon,  happy hour was held at 3pm because the rain still hadn't made it to us.  I got lucky because Louise played ball with me just before the gang arrived to snack on shared treats.  I think she likes to play as much as I do!!

When Momma finally was able to speak to the campground host this morning at R Shaffer Heard CG to let her know the group's change of plans, the host said that they had no power and that the community had been hit by a tornado.  Her comment was, "It's a mess!!"  Check out these pics Momma found on line.

So sorry for those in the path of destruction.

This area was blessed and it didn't even get wet here until dinner time.  Once again, our guardian angel was watching over everyone.  This campground did have a bit of rain with some wind that broke off a tree,

but it landed on an empty site.
So glad everyone is safe and sound.

Earlier today, seeing as we were one of the fortunate ones who didn't have to change sites, Momma and Dad had time to head into Eufala in search of a door mat.  We departed home with one.  We even used it while in Perry, Georgia.  Somehow, it never showed up at this location.  Momma thought Dad had packed it.  Dad thought Momma had packed it.  Come to find out, it was really MY turn to pack it and I didnt even know it!!  With the rain due, they decided it would be good idea to get something to wipe my paws on.

Everyone had hopes of enjoying a hot dog meal together tonight, but the weather had other ideas for us.  Maybe tomorrow????  I wonder if I will be invited to attend?

Lovin' this campground

 March 25, 2023

Hardridge Creek CG site 72

Abbieville, Al

We are enjoying this wonderful campground.

There is even a nicely mowed field for my friend Sue and me to enjoy.

We both got pretty tuckered out, so we napped while the two-legged had their birthday happy hour.

It's Jim's birthday today

so everyone enjoyed the cake his wife, Michelle baked along with some ice cream.

Firewood hasn't been an issue as there is quite a bit of dead wood available to collect
The wood gathering team sawed the branches into fire pit size.  All that was needed were a few pine cones to add to the mix and....
Strike the match
With the rain we had earlier during the day, there was just enough wetness to create some smoke to send out the message....'It's gather round the fire time'.

I have to admit, I didn't mind the rain during the day this morning as I had lots of company.  A group showed up to play with me...well, Momma too.  They played Fast Track after playing ball toss with me.  Then at 1:30 another group dropped in for a game of Swoop.  I LOVE company!!

Life is good in Alabama😃
