West Virginia arrival

Revelle's Family CG site 95

Elkin, WV

There was a strong potential for a beautiful, colorful, fall showcase as we traveled into West Virginia today but Mother Nature refused to cooperate and only provided a small tease of occasional semi-bright color.

There was more vibrant color from the orange work cones than the scenery.

Our sites at this campground are at the end of one of the interior roads - what Momma called a cul-de-sac but the hosts referred to as 'the cove'.  We really got lucky as we aren't crowded at all and that means room to run a bit.  We almost didn't stay here.  When Momma called to make a reservation, figuring with over 200 sites, she wouldn't have any problem securing a couple of sites, she was told they might have just one.  Sorry.  But about an hour later, she received a call saying they not only had two sites, but the sites are side by side.  What a pleasant surprise.  The gal kept saying you'll have to back into the cove with a bit of worry in her voice but that didn't worry us at all with Dad's skill.  Just as Dad had turned/circled around with a good line up to back in, a gentleman on a golf cart showed up.  He said, "It looks like you've got it under control.  We've had campers get jack-knifed trying to back into these sites."  This was an easy site to get into compared to a couple of others more challenging that we have maneuvered into this summer.  Lots of room to maneuver here!

The campground has a firm arrival time of 3pm, so by the time we arrived, got set up and lit the grill for dinner, it looks like outdoor romp and playtime will have to wait until tomorrow. With rain in the forecast for the late afternoon, I'd better start working on my 'let's play face' first thing in the morning so I don't miss out!
