Jiffy Time

We once again have full hook ups at a fairground but this fairground comes with the bonus of gravel/dirt interior roads with pot holes.  The sites are not as nicely groomed as the Elkhart 4-H Fairgrounds and some sites are side by side sharing a hookup making them a tad close to each other,

but the location is great for us.   Culver's is less than a mile away along with lots of stores and restaurants.

Hey, I have a question for you.  Are you familiar with Jiffy mixes...like Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix? 

Do you know where the only factory to produce Jiffy mixes is located?  If you said Chelsea, Michigan you would be correct. 

The 4th generation factory uses locally grown wheat and corn and hires about 310 employees working 3 shifts, adding additional help from June - January when the product demand increases turning out 1 1/2 million boxes a day.  No wonder they have so many 135 foot silos to store the grains.

 The greeter statue was the "star" of the well done video that was part of the tour.  He is animated and not human, but the artistic cartoon character added a level of entertainment as he shared his knowledge of the product line in the informative video which was followed by a tour through the plant...no photos allowed!!

So everyone covered their hair...including mustaches and beards.

  Every Friday, all the machines get an intensive 4 hour deep cleaning.  Then the machines are tested for allergens before production starts up on Monday.  

Momma spotted a sign for True North Smoked Meats on the highway while on their way to Jiffy, so they decided it was worth checking out.

It looked a little iffy when they arrived but I'm happy to report the stop was a great success.  Dad got out the grill and Momma and Dad were wishing they had purchased more than just a sampling.

I would have appreciated a sampling of my own!!
