Gilmore Car Museum

Momma and Dad looked dazed when they returned to the rig.  I think they were on overload.  Dad said they even made a stop at Culver's on the way back to me....for medicinal purposes of course. A prescription for dazed, overload.  That's his story and he's sticking to it!!  Turtle Dove for the flavor of the day.  Yum😋

Today they headed off to Gilmore Car Museum.  The first challenge, before they had even gone 2 miles, was the road closed sign and no detour assistance.  Momma just grabbed the Rand GPS and clicked compare routes.  The other route was only 5 minutes difference in time and didn't involve the closed road so off they went....until the GPS wanted Dad to turn on a dirt road.  He passed and let the recalculation take place.  Would you believe the next turn was also onto a dirt road?  Pass again.... but the third time he decided maybe it was time to travel a dirt road.  The museum itself is not on a dirt road and the parking lot was even paved.

Just check out this grand building....and come to find out, it wasn't the only building filled to the brim with restored cars.  It all began as a hobby...a barn looking building that was built on farmland that Gilmore purchased across from his house.  A place to keep and share his car collection.  And then it grew....and grew....and....more supporters built buildings and added cars and....WOW

The entrance really makes an impact with all the shiny, restored Duesenberg's from the 1930's

Have you ever seen a door hinge like this one?

There were Ford's, Cadillac's, Chevrolet's spanning many years and all expertly restored.   Volunteers fondly polish and maintain the bright shiny finish.

Can you identify the manufacture who used this hood ornament?
There was a building full of Pierce Arrow models.

Even items from a vintage gas station were on site.  Gasoline 18 cents a gallon according to the sign.

If you enjoy vintage cars, Gilmore Car Museum is a must for your bucket list!!

Now if you enjoy nice dog parks and a really nice, reasonably priced campground near by, check out Fairmount Dog Park and Markin Glen Campground in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
