Happy Fourth of July

July 4, 2019
Goshen, Indiana

Happy 4th of July!!  Momma and Dad decided to enjoy the festival events in Topeka today with some camping buddies. They arrived just in time to catch the Garden Tractor pulls held on a street closed off just for the event.  It was definitely a family affair....not only in the audience...

but with the participants as well.

Then they zipped down the street for a little change of horse power.  The garden tractor power may be measured in horsepower, but the next event literally used 'horse power'.
These magnificent teams weighed in at over 5,000 pounds.
A team of 3 men, one with the reins and 2 holding either side of the draw bar would approach the wagon.  As soon as that draw bar dropped over the hook, the draft horse team dug in and tugged the weigh 27 feet...until the whistle blew signaling the pull had ended.
Some teams were so anxious to pull that they wanted to take off before the men could drop the draw bar on the hook.  What muscle power!
The auctioneer took bids on each team and if you 'bought' that horse thinking the team would be the winner, and they actually won, you would receive a percentage of the money accumulated from all the bids.  The auctioneer was an act in itself.  His rapid spiel was impressive.

Just check out the parking lot.
 Some folks arrived by buggy.
Some arrived by bicycle.
And many arrived in cars and trucks.

Of course no 4th of July would be complete without a BBQ cookout.  Corn on cob done on the grill along side of hamburgers, hotdogs and brats.  Throw in some beans, salads and chips and you have the perfect cook out to enjoy with your camping friends.  BBQ for 12 today!!  No, that doesn't include me, but I did get a 4th of July dog bone.  Well, actually, it is the same evening treat that I get every night but Momma just made a little bigger production of it in honor of Independence Day.  She said I would be living a much different life if we didn't live in this great country of ours.  This shirt makes a powerful statement.

Tomorrow our group will begin to shrink in size as Dotty and Dickie are departing.  Safe travels to my friends....

I'm Chloe
