Bummer

August 21-22, 2018
St. Martin, New Brunswick
Century Farm Campground

I feel a bit 'holey' today.  My day began with a blood draw and a lime booster shot. Holes in my coat.  My blood work came out great and my lime booster made me a tad groggy today...not as much energy as usual.  Dad says that's okay as it was a travel day anyway.  The vet was super nice and she just cooed over me.

Another 20+ miles up the road we zipped across the American/Canadian border and found a very much improved highway.  The road was decent until 19 miles from St. Martin when the new construction ran out and the road full of patchwork took over.  Oh well, it was marvelous while it lasted and thankfully it was 90/10 good to rough rather than 10/90.

They unhooked and headed out for a big bowl of that famous clam chowder that they enjoyed back in 2013.....but.....they don't serve clam chowder any more.  Bummer!!  The owner said it wasn't very popular.  She said everyone ordered seafood chowder.  Dad said that the seafood chowder was 'just okay'...mostly haddock...but loaded with fish.  Compared to the seafood chowder at Eastport that had two large lobster claws plus the scallops along with the haddock, this was second rate.  What a let down.  Momma and Dad came back to the rig looking downtrodden. Momma didn't even bother with a pic of the chowder as it was just a big let down ....especially when they had such high expectations.  Bummer!!  And they didn't even spill any on their shirts for me to sample.  Bummer!!

I guess business must be doing good though as the restaurant has been totally remodeled and given a very positive face lift inside and out.  Dad and Momma took advantage of the 73 degree weather and the beautiful setting and ate on the patio.

Another change they discovered in St. Martin was a new bridge.  The covered bridge that had to be used in the past is still there, but to get to the restaurant and the Fundy Trail, you now use an open bridge...still one lane...as was the covered bridge, but a stop light has been added to control the traffic flow and sharing of the one lane bridge space.

The tide was out so there were several visitors walking out to the caves that are exposed during low tide.

It's mind boggling to wrap your mind around the fact that one hundred billion tons of water flows into and out of the Bay of Fundy on an average tide, twice a day.  Boats were sitting on the sand, propped up with a crate looking affair as the boats rested on their keels, waiting for the high tide to bring them back up to dock height.

This is a gorgeous area ....even without clam chowder.

And the story continues....the next day they visited a local museum and the young docent (who reminded them of grandson, Nathan) told them there are actually two restaurants out there now and The Caves has better chowder.  Yep, back they went and sure enough, it wasn't a facelift but a second restaurant located on top of the old stand by The Caves that they had visited.  This chowder was much thicker..more of a bisque rather than a milk broth.  And, even though it wasn't clam chowder (Bummer) it was still a tasty seafood chowder with a variety of seafood.

And they got to observe the docks when the tide was in.  Boats were now at dock level.
