Shady Rest CG site 27
Gibson, PA
If you equate colorful leaves with fall.....it is definitely fall. What a gorgeous travel day, full of color
It is certainly nice to be able to enjoy Mother Nature's gift of a colorful landscape without ever having to get involved in that fall chore that goes hand in hand with those fall falling leaves. I'm talking about raking leaves of course. Both Momma and Dad have vivid memories of raking ....and raking....and raking....and collecting leaves.
But some areas don't lend themselves to raking and leaf collecting. Take our current campground that is built on a hillside amongst the trees.
It was an unusual arrival. We had a reservation but the office was closed when we arrived around 1:30 with a note on the door to use one of the envelopes for self registration today. There was a phone number listed, so Momma called but only got voice mail. We really don't have a problem with the office being closed IF only they had left us a packet with site numbers. We were totally on our own to locate vacant sites BUT that was intimidating as the terrain is so hilly and the interior roads twist and turn, rise and fall and really weren't conducive to driving around to locate empty sites....so it was decided to walk the closest road to the right. Finding some empty sites, we selected a couple, walked back for the vehicles, drove up the hill and around the twisting road. Now attempting to level up was another challenge for the day....and all for just an overnight stay.
We have been finding more and more as we have been traveling that there is an extra percentage charged for using a credit card to complete a transaction...not only at campgrounds but at restaurants and Mom and Pop shops. This campground has 5% added so we paid in cash. The campground owner had an appointment so she missed our arrival, but she came around and returned $5 of the money we left in our self registration envelope as a Veteran's discount along with offering an apology for not being here for our arrival. Momma said she is glad she didn't write her negative campground review right after we arrived. She felt a tad better after the owner reached out.
Tomorrow we are planning to be camping near the Amish in Quarryville, Pennsylvania for a few nights. Catch you down the road.
I'm Chloe
