KOA Ashville East, Swannanoa, NC
They departed early this morning for Black Mountain ....just up the road .....to get a good parking spot for the Sourwood Festival.
Several streets are closed off so roughly 150+ vendors can set up their displays for the weekend sales. By arriving early, the crowd was mininal
so it was easy to view the items for sale. Just check out this clock.Lots of variety for sale from creative crafters.
Now this scarecrow/guy was heads above everyone for a good view.
He sure has great balance! He even danced for the other shoppers.
With thoughts of the crowd in Black Mountain, the gang decided to head in the opposite direction, hoping for less congestion, with a goal of getting Dad a banana split. The Ultimate Ice Cream Company is located just 7 miles from our campground so....off they headed.
Sometimes you make a great decision, and sometimes you just call it an adventure that won't be repeated. There wasn't a banana split in sight as the shop had run out of bananas ....yesterday. (Now mind you, there is a grocery store just across the street...with bananas for sale!)
So time for choice B.....a double scoop of Belgian Dark Chocolate with raspberry sauce. Now the reason this dish is empty in the photo is the portion that was scooped into this dish. Can anyone say petite/small/sampler sized. Two mouthfuls and it was gone. The second dish in the picture was actually a spoon holder. Okay, so it did have just a smidgeon of ice cream in it.Dad said he could easily put away a second dish.....if he could afford it! Ice cream for two at $15. Maybe they spend the $ on the outside patio.
Guess not. Uncle Steve is certain that this ice cream shop has put the customer's health as their top priority....serving small, healthy sized, minimal portions so the consumer is not loaded up with a high cholesteral treat. But Dad said they aren't doing the customer's heart any favors when they hand them that high priced, shocking bill. Needless to say, there is a much more reasonably priced ice cream shop serving larger/what you would expect/ portions in Black Mountain that will be visited next time. I'll bet they even had bananas today.
It seems we are getting a late afternoon shower complete with thunder. Something tells me it's a good thing Dad and Uncle Steve decided to grill those delicious cheese brats from Winesburg Meats in Ohio last night instead of tonight. Seeing as no one shared with me, they have leftovers to enjoy tonight.
I'm Chloe
