Layover days

 August  8-9. 2021

Fort Chisholm RV Park, Max Meadows, VA

We are here for two nights as a layover stop, although the majority of the other campers just make it a one night layover.  We watched as they arrived last night. Then we watched as they departed this  morning while we were leisurely enjoying breakfast.

Speaking of watching them arrive, we had some tale telling observations.  As you enter the RV Park, there is a long straight driveway with a stop sign at the end.  You need to loop to the right at the large, spacious intersection but....if you aren't paying attention and you cut the corner short....you make a racket that calls attention to your arrival.  A tow-behind was hung up on the stop sign that had connected with the awning arm on the side of his rig.  The driver backed up and the sign flipped back to the front side of the awning arm.  At this point, the passenger/wife got out and tried to pull the side away from the rig while the driver, once again, drove forward.  With the wife tugging on the sign, the rig passed by the awning arm.....but it scraped on the door handle as the vehicle continued around the corner.  WE  HAVE ARRIVED!!

Then there was the fifth wheel that was getting situated on their site.  They had unhooked from the hitch and pulled the truck forward a tad and then hit the auto level button.  The front of the rig began lowering into a level position but....the truck...which had only pulled foward a tad..was in the path and the nose of the rig landed on the truck box.  Ooooops!!

We didn't have any problems getting set up....or so we thought...and then Dad noticed that even though we had flipped the power breaker to the on position, we weren't getting any 'juice' inside the rig.  Further investigation determined the cause.  We found a faulty breaker AND burnt out connection in the box.  Amazingly, the guy on duty at the office gave Dad a new breaker and connection plug and Dad changed out the bad components in their box.  Now everything is humming along as it should be.

Later in the afternoon, I was outside enjoying some nice fresh air and as I looked past the pool and up on the hillside...no...that can't be....can it?  Just check it out.

There were over 100 sheep grazing.  I turned to Dad and wondered if he would let me herd them up, but of course he wouldn't.  He's no fun.

It was a pretty drive as we traveled through West Virginia to arrive here.

We had stopped midway in our travels at a rest stop for a lunch break.  We were sitting at covered picnic table, just finishing up when Uncle Steve looked up at the sky and proclaimed rain was heading our way.  Dad and I took off for the truck and we had only gone 6 ft when the clouds unloaded on us.  Momma was still under the sheltered roof debating what plan of action to take.  Uncle Steve, who had also run off to his truck returned with an umbrella so he could walk Aunt Carol to the rest room.  The rain didn't seem to be letting up at all so Momma was trying to come to terms with the fact that by the time she got to our truck, she would be soaked for sure when a gal joined her under the sheltered roof and asked if we were done with our table.  They had just arrived and she had an umbrella.  Momma was able to borrow that gal's umbrella so she could skip out to the truck and grab our umbrella for the trip to return the borrowed umbrella before sliding onto the truck seat with a dry head.  Talk about good timing!!  The rain didn't last long on our drive.  Just enough to undo that wash job the day before on the truck. Oh well.  That's mother nature.  Unpredictable at times.

While we were getting set up, Momma had pulled out our steps and they extended past the flat drive over a sloping ground.  Her foot slid on some of the loose gravel, heading down the slope onto uneven ground and she wound up twisting her foot.  OUCH!!  I guess she should have been in 'goat gear'.

The fresh peaches we had picked up in Amish country had finally advanced from hard as a rock stage to ready for cobbler stage.  With Momma's foot in the air, Dad tossed the ingredients together while Momma sliced the peaches and supervised the construction of a tasty peach cobbler to share.....with everyone..... but me that is!

After icing and babying her foot last night, Momma can at least handle putting weight on her foot today.  I guess it's a good thing we had planned a two night layover....some built in recovery time!!

Don't worry Momma, I'll keep you company as you lay around giving your foot a rest today.  Do you want to watch a dog movie with me?

I'm Chloe
