Deer Run Campground site 62
Troy, Alabama
Everyday is a new adventure and this trip sure has given me quite a bit to write about. Today was no different in the 'news' department. It began as a normal travel day. We pulled in the slides; smiled when the refrigerator switched over to propane mode and kept running/cooling without any issues; hooked up and traveled to the dump station. So far, so good.
Momma got behind the wheel again today as we headed for Troy, Alabama with a planned rest break at the rest area near Ozark, Alabama. We were rewarded with open, spacious parking spots and marveled that we still had somewhat cool air in the Ram cab. Not a bad day.....so far.....but......
Dad had taken me for a stroll in the pet walk area while Momma shut off the engine and walked around the front of the truck and noticed liquid running out from under the front. Probably just from the AC unit??? But it's pink???
Well, Dad's first comment when we returned to the truck was, "What else can go wrong this trip?" In case you haven't figured it out yet, that pink liquid was antifreeze from the overflow. So Dad turned to Momma and said, "Was the engine running hot on the gauge?"
I could tell Momma was at a loss. She kept the wheels within the parameters of the lines dividing the highway paying close attention to the GPS turn instructions while monitoring the speedometer for the speed zone changes in addition to driving defensively and avoiding colliding with the 'jerk' who pulled out in front of us without enough space to do so. Do you mean to tell me she has to check hot and cold gauges as well?
About the time we were wondering if the AutoZone about 10 miles up the road would consider delivering antifreeze to the rest stop because the one spare jug we carry wasn't quite enough to replace all the run off,
Aunt Pam strolled over and said, I'll just unhook from my fifth wheel and we'll zip to the AutoZone. As a result, another lesson was added to her collection to stow away for future use, as she learned you need to purchase the right kind of antifreeze for your vehicle...you mean to tell me that there is more than one kind?
Atleast this was a simple fix...or it appears to be so far. The thoughts are, the garage didn't fill the tank with enough antifreeze ..... purging the line to be certain all the bubbles were out, and double checking to see if more needed to be added.
But that didn't end today's tales of woe. As we were setting up on our site where we will spend the next 3 nights, we discovered that the cap to our sewer line had disappeared. It normally is tethered to the pipe with a line and should have been dangling if it had somehow fallen off the end of the pipe (or failed to get snapped back into place). I guess that means a shopping trip for a new cover/cap. Oh well, minor project.
Now on a more postive note, we arrived safely and completed our set up 'just' before the afternoon storm rolled in. Yep, it was one of those storms that makes me quiver, pant and pace. Claps of thunder amongst a HEAVY rain. But we all stayed dry inside.
I even had company that I enjoyed for a short while until the big bang of thunder caught my attention. Aunt Pam's daughter and two granddaughters arrived.
The girls and I played an inside game of catch with my toys.
I REALLY needed that after all that riding today. I had energy to burn....until all that thunder. Then I curled up under the table hugging everyone's feet while they played a game of Dirty Uno.
And so ends today's tales of minor glitches that are easily taken care of. Just enough to keep things interesting.
I'm Chloe
