Another well done museum took Momma and Dad away today with their friends Jan and Bill. You could certainly tell that the two museum attendees LOVE their jobs at Independence Hall. Such enthusiam!!
The tour began in the basement with a video designed to explain how West Virginia became a state, separating from Virginia. From there the elevator (nice modern addition to the old historic building) took everyone to the third floor, 4 stories up, where Debbie shared a wealth of information in the court room.
Can you believe these three dimensional ceiling medalions are just painted on a flat surface? The artist has given them a three dimensional appearance.
Not only did the rooms have high ceilings, but they had high doorways to match.
No wonder Independence Hall received recognition for their restoration. There was a whole room devoted to the restoration process, bringing Independence Hall back to life. What a change from the before pictures on display.
The second floor displayed old flags, many that had been carried into battle. As a soldier, you needed to keep the flag in sight in order to stay with your regiment and not become lost during the battle.
But the goal was to enjoy a fish sandwich at Coleman's.
Place your order.
And listen for your number to be called. The sandwiches were enjoyed on the patio with entertainment in the sky. A helicopter with a technician suspended on a rope was replacing some equipment on the electrical lines. If Momma had put down her sandwich sooner and grabbed her camera, she would have caught him before he had completed the repair and was being carried back to base camp.
If I had been with her, I would have been able to see to it that a better picture was taken.
I'm Chloe
