Presque Isle Passage RV site 27
Erie, Pa
Yesterday was travel day from Ohio into Pennsylvania.
Momma checked with Gas Buddy to see what would happen to the fuel prices when we crossed the border. Cha-ching...rising prices. Just before the border Dad stopped at a Flying J in Ohio for $4.83 a gallon rather than waiting until we got to our campsite area which is only about 20 miles over the border, where prices are $5.49 a gallon and up. We knew it was only a matter of time before we would be back in the over $5 a gallon price range. We had heard stories about Pa and NY fuel prices so Momma has been trying to prepare Dad for the shock at the pump so his heart doesn't jump out of rhythm when we finally have to pay the higher pricing or go without.Even the campgrounds are more costly. Maybe it has something to do with the shorter camping season??? Got to make money in a shorter period of time. We are staying at the highest priced campsite so far this trip but you wouldn't realize it by looking at the campground. As a matter of fact, the first night, which was a Friday, was rated $15.50 higher than the other nights. Momma had questioned why when she made the reservation and she was told it was because of the event taking place in the area. When she inquired as to what event, the clerk wasn't sure but thought it might be the Tall Ships. An Internet search revealed that the Tall Ships event occurs at the end of the month, so Momma inquired again when we arrived as to what event was taking place. I think the event was called 'rip off' as the clerk refunded $15.50 when he couldn't come up with an event. He said the campground is under new owners and the site pricing is populated automatically by computer, not by hand entry. We have seen pricing rates that charge a bit more for weekends than weekdays but this campground raises the rate by $2.10 for weekdays over weekends. Unusual concept.
This is the only campground this adventure where our leveling system couldn't level us on our site. I guess it's a pay more get less situation. Unlevel site, no trash pick up at the site, picnic table with a top that resembles curling skis. On the plus side, our site is long and we have decent power.
Now I'm thinking I would have really enjoyed the dinner excursion to Bro Man's Sammich. Dad said they almost didn't locate it. They used to sell out of a food truck only, until they took up space at a Gulf Gas Station. The GPS said they had arrived, but it just looked like a gas station....until they saw the small signage on the door. I have to say, if the 'sammich' was half as good as the smells coming from that leftovers box they brought home, that was some good eating for sure. No wonder Bro Man's Sammich has a perfect 5* rating!!
I would gladly add my review if I could just figure out how to get in that box without getting caught.I'm Chloe
