Back in buggy country

Friday was travel day once again as we headed for a week stay in the Ohio Amish area of Berlin.  Approximately 38,000 Amish and Mennonite reside in Holmes, Wayne Tuscarawas, and Coshocton Counties.

Dad got so excited when he saw the $4.99 diesel price that he hustled to the station after we got set up to score some of that under $5 a gallon fuel.  And of course, true to form, the next day Dad had to chuckle when he saw the price has changed by 20 cents.  That's a drop of 20 cent so the price is now $4.79.  Yep, the joke was on him. 

 

We were amazed at the number of vacant sites here ...and on a weekend yet.  When Sunday rolled around, we thought we were staying at a ghost campground.

Campers pulled out giving me even more room to romp and stomp...if only I didn't have to be on lead all the time.  RULES!!!  Well, a girl can dream about romping in the lush grass.

Our neighbors on the non-door side of our rig are here for a month.  They have a ladder that they carry on their rig and these creatures built a beautiful nest and decided to call it home.

Sunday. everything in the downtown tourist area closes up and the hustle and bustle of activity we viewed on our Friday arrival ceased.

This main street was full of cars, pedestrians, and Amish pedaling bikes on Friday and Saturday.  We even had to stop at the crosswalks to give the people the opportunity to walk across the busy street.  But the Amish aren't driven by the mighty dollar and profit.  They devote Sunday to God and a day of rest keeping it a holy day.  They don't worry about loss of revenue because they put their faith in God.

It is truly a beautiful area with flower/quilt gardens as well as vegetable gardens flourishing.

Momma and Dad made sure to get to Winesburg Meat Market for some flavored brats.  I'm not sure if the Cheese or Cajun brats are on tonight's menu.  Maybe it'll be the Key West Porkloin?  I'll probably have to go into stealth mode to get a sample for myself.  Maybe one of you can call around dinner time and provide a distraction so I can snatch a taste.?
