Mt. Airy, NC

Mt. Airy, NC

I guess a Saturday is not the best day for travel on I-77 unless you like a bit of traffic.  Add some construction to that and it was a day for keeping your mind on your driving.
Now here's an interesting concept.  You can choose to ride the express lanes for a fee....either with a pass or they will mail/bill you at a higher rate.  Of course you have to be a 2 axle vehicle.  So do they make the highway just congested enough by making it  2 lanes traveling north and reserve an additional 2 lanes for $$ to encourage/tempt people to contribute to their money pot?

We didn't see many vehicles paying for the fast lanes.  They could have just made four lanes heading north and relieved a bit of the congestion instead of trying to be greedy.

We are pleased with our Mayberry Campground setting here in Mt. Airy.  Nice green grass, well maintained park and a reasonable GS rate.  We are staying 2 nights here for just a tad more than our one night at the run down KOA in Fort Mill, SC.  And we have cable here along with wifi unlike the KOA (well, the KOA claimed to have wifi but...).  More amenities for less $$.  That makes Dad smile!!

Momma and Dad headed out to Pilot Mountain about 12 miles away to the CVS to pick up a pharmacy refill and boy did they have a treat.  They were having a Saturday car show...and it wasn't a little affair.  There were too many cars to take them all in.

Both sides of Main Street were lined with vehicles as well as several parking lots. And....to top it all off, the 100 degree weather is beginning to cool off so it was a comfortable day for car gawking.

It even cooled off enough for an evening game of Frisbee toss and catch in the plush grass.  It just doesn't get any better!!
