Impressive

Rippling Waters CG
Romance, WV

Gee Whiz!  How's a gal suppose to nap with all the ooh's and ahh's.  It's not like they haven't seen the mountain views before.  Yes, I know it's been a while since the 'flat-landers' have motored into the green lush mountain and valley areas.  Yes, I know it's impressive but...

Now if you really want to talk impressive, just take a peek at County Road 42.  Our destination was Rippling Waters Campground in Romance, WV.  The campground is just 4 miles off I-77 but the last 2 1/2 miles were the most 'impressive' of the day.  I mean we held our breath a few times as we snaked...yes, I said snaked around the curves on the narrow 2 lane country road.
You really didn't want to fall off the pavement.

Even when being challenged by a HUGE dump truck coming at you from the opposite direction.

We arrive safely without a scratch.  We did gather a few bugs on our nose but that's to be expected.  When you contrast this campsite with our last one, well, let's say this stop is good for an overnight stop and with Passport America $20 a night for full hook up, we  really can't complain.

We had a warm welcome in the office with a nice escort to our site. Dad even had the opportunity for a Good Samaritan act.  Our neighbor two sites away was having microwave issues.  His wife had passed two years ago so he is traveling solo on his way to visit his kids.  He said if it can't be made in the microwave, he doesn't cook it.  He was going to resort to a bowl of cereal for dinner until Dad offered to take a look his microwave.  After all, he has been in training taking Momma's all apart.  After Dad took the face off the micro and got behind the unit, he determined that the power cord plug had jiggled loose from bouncing up and down on these roads.  He shoved the plug back in tightly and things are looking much better for dinner tonight.  Momma had made  microwave oatmeal bars so she shared some with neighbor Dan, along with the recipe. After all, it is made in the microwave.

Mayberry Campground, our prior stop, also offers Passport America pricing if you stay on a Monday-Thursday instead of a weekend night.  In addition to the WONDERFUL ambiance... a well groomed campground.... they have cable with a full lineup of stations.

Mayberry also offers some interesting experiences in downtown Mt. Airy, even on a Sunday.  We had toured the Andy Griffin Museum the last time we were in the area so we toured The Earl, the old theater.
You were given a hand held player that played information for you to listen to as you toured the pictures hanging on the walls of the theater.  The theme was 'Old Time Musicians'.  Upstairs a video went into detail about how the Surry County Old Time Music style was adopted internationally.

Tommy Jarrell welcomed fellow musicians into his home and shared his fiddle/music style which is still alive and being played today.  And Tommy didn't even have a phone or other technology.  He and the fellow musicians would play music and the other guests would clog and dance.

Dad had a BIG frown on his face when we fueled up the Ram here in the WV country setting.  $3.29 a gallon for diesel is the highest we have paid.  Now the challenge is to locate fuel for $2.50 to off set this high price.  Think it will happen???
