Rainy Monday

June 10, 2019
Berlin, Ohio

Monday is most definitely wash day for the Amish.  Momma and Dad headed out mid morning.  They had just departed the campground when it began to sprinkle.  The gals were hustling at the clothes lines at house after house trying to grab the wash before the skies really let loose.  Fortunately there had been a nice breeze all morning which means the wash was probably dry.   They did pass a few houses where someone must have gotten a weather report as the wash was hanging under the shelter of the porch roof.

The rain didn't stop people from getting out and about.  With all the hills here, you wouldn't think cycling would be a choice for travel but....I guess they have strong legs.

Buggies are a very much a common sight.

Momma and Dad headed to nearby Kidron to browse at Lehman's Retail Store.  It began as a small Amish hardware store and has evolved into a tourist shop.  It was voted 'Ohio's #1 destination in Amish Country'.  Well, it may have begun as a hardware store, but as it has evolved, the hardware has been replaced by housewares.

There are sections for candles, cleaning, lamps, toys, gardening and tools, to canning supplies, baking, cast iron, cards, laundry (including clothing including Tilley hats for men and drop seat long johns) bbq, and heating stoves.  Interspersed are antiques on display.  A large inventory to explore but not much hardware.

Fortunately for me, I got in a couple of games of Frisbee in the morning because by the time Momma and Dad returned, it was POURING and blowing.  No more outside games on the agenda for the rest of the day.  I'm sure hoping tomorrow is better.  I'd much rather be running full out in the grass
than romping inside our 5er playing fetch with my pig.

I'm Chloe
